Jane could not believe her eyes. All these gifts were for her! She had never seen so many packages in her life!

Have your child read the sentence once or twice. Then have your child discuss the mental images created by the sentences. If possible, have other family members describe how they visualize the sentences. People will likely differ in their descriptions of the scene. For instance, some may picture a small child surrounded by stacks of gifts. Others may imagine an older girl in front of a table piled with presents. There is no single correct answer, and those three simple sentences, though not particularly rich in detail, do offer enough information for the reader or listener to begin to form a mental picture.

Reread the poem from yesterday. Pay attention to all the details that help you to make a picture in your mind as you read. Then, draw a picture of the man from the poem. When you are done, read the poem again to make sure you did not forget any important details. If you want, you can send a picture of your drawing to the teacher. She would love to see it!

Word Wall Word Work: new now how house boy Be a Mind Reader Activity: You are going to try to guess which word wall word is the mystery word. Get a blank paper, chalk board, white board etc. List the numbers from 1 - 5 down the left side of the page. Read clue 1 and write a word wall word that matches the clue beside the number 1. Read clue 2. If your first word still matches the clue, rewrite the word beside number 2. If it doesn’t match the clue, pick a new word and write it beside the number 3. Continue writing a word wall word for each clue. We’ll post the answers next week!

Clue 1 It’s a word wall word. Clue 2 This word has only one vowel. Clue 3 It ends with a consonant “w”. Clue 4 This word starts with the letter “n”. Clue 5 This word has the vowel “e” in it.
