How old does your child have to be to start Kindergarten?

Your child must turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2026 in order to qualify for Kindergarten for the upcoming school year.

• Registration opens February 2, 2026

• Kindergarten registration for families new to the Division is online. Visit the Division website to learn how to register for school.

Kindergarten Curriculum

Healthy Snack Time

Some ways that you can prepare your child for Kindergarten

​

• Allowing your child to develop their independence

(ex: putting on their own shoes, zipping up their own coats etc)

​

• Providing natural play opportunities where your child can talk with you, practice their fine motor skills (building with blocks, playdoh, colouring, crafts) and explore their surroundings

​

• Establishing consistent daily routines

(ex: regular bedtime and wake-up times, practicing a simple morning routine, cleaning up toys after play)

​

• Encouraging early literacy and communication skills

(ex: reading together daily, taking about their day, practicing recognizing letters and writing their name)

Supply List

• Backpack

(Large enough to hold a lunch bag, water bottle, and school papers)

​

• White soled indoor shoes that are labeled

(Please send Velcro shoes if your child is not yet able to tie laces independently)

​

• Spill-proof, reusable water bottle

​

• Complete change of clothes in a labeled bag

(Including shirt, pants, underwear and socks)

​

Activities/Field Trips and Fees

​

• $100 Kindergarten Fee covers the entire school year and ensures your child has everything they need to learn, create, and explore.

​

• This one-time fee provides all classroom supplies, including pencils, crayons, markers, glue, books, craft materials, and supplies for special projects. It also helps cover the cost of field trips throughout the year.

​

• With this fee, families won’t need to purchase additional classroom supplies, allowing us to focus on a fun, engaging, and enriching kindergarten experience for every student.

Specialized Learning Supports

• Specialized Learning Supports School-Linked team are available to support student success.

​

• Teams offer supports from targeted classroom consultation to specialized/individualized support, including assessments when indicated.

​

• Also includes Mental Health Supports, Diversity Education, Intercultural Consultants, and International Programs.

​

• Students may be eligible for bussing

Day Care

​

Alder Academy is located in École Wîhkwêntôwin School. We also have other daycares drop off and pick up students who attend our school.
