There are different types of context clues:

1. Definition – the meaning of the word is explained in the sentence

Example:

Peter is a resilient person. He thinks and acts positively by looking for ways to overcome problems.

2. Synonym – a word with the same meaning is used in the sentence

Example:

Peter is so resilient, flexible, self-reliant, and resourceful.

3. Antonym – a word with nearly opposite in meaning is used in the sentence or nearby sentences

She lived in the forest on the outskirts of a fishing village and was famous for her beautiful flowers. The fisherman would barter their treasured catch for her flowers.

Once upon a time in the Philippines there was an old woman with strange magical qualities. The local villagers had noticed her house seemed brighter at night even though there was no electricity.
