Overview

Fundamental skills evaluation is done within the first & last week of the season. This helps identify areas of opportunity for each player and the team as a whole. Strive to see progress in each participant. As a coaching staff, set goals and share improvements with players and parents at the end of the season. Each skills station is adapted to its applicate age level ensuring that players remain challenged, fostering continuous growth and development.

Catching

Set up

  • Coaches Lacrosse Stick
  • Accurate Passing from Coach
  • 10+ balls

Process

Coach deliver passes to player, if they catch it they pass it back, if they miss it FORGET about it, coaches has plenty of extra balls. Record the # of completed catches.

Age Level Details

B12 - Strong Hand Only, 10 attempts @ position 1

B34 - Strong & Weak Hand, 5 attempts @ position 1 each.

B56 - Strong & Weak Hand, 1 attempt @ positions 1, 2, 3, 4 + one random location

Precision Passing

Set up

  • Bucket/Target (1 ft X 1 ft) secured @ age level height (Shoulder height).
  • 10+ balls

Process

Player is provided all 10 balls at the marked cone. Player attempts to hit the target based on age level guidelines. Record the # of time player hits target.

Age Level Details

1&2 - 10 attempts @ 5-7 yds away, Strong hand only

3&4 - 5 attempts @ 10 yds away, Strong & Weak Hand

5&6 - 5 attempts @ 15 yds away, Strong & Weak Hand

Ground Ball Relay

Set up

  • Cones set up (refer to diagram)
  • 5+ balls
  • stopwatch/phone

Process

  1. Starting at cone #1, coach say go/blows whistle & start stopwatch, player sprints and scoops a ball from cone #2
  2. Player then runs and drops ball @ cone #3
  3. Player immediately turns around and scoops the remaining ball before sprinting through cone #1
  4. Time is stopped once the place crosses cone #1. Record Time.

Shot Speed

Set up

Shot clock behind lacrosse goal

Cone set 5 yds in front of goal for shooting location

10+ balls (some will get yeeted to the stratosphere)

Process

Player is provided 1 ball at a time. Player shoots as hard as they can, if shot fails to register, the player can attempt again if coach allows . Record the highest value for each hand.
