According to CDC & MDOE Guidelines, students will be required to wear face masks at school. I am encouraging my 4th graders to practice wearing their masks at home for longer periods of time in order to get used to them before school starts. If possible, please send extra masks to school with your student in case they are in need of a backup.

CES will provide each student with 2 cloth face masks. Extra disposable masks will be available if needed.

In order to adhere to CDC & MDOE Guidelines, students should only bring what is absolutely necessary to & from school each day. Necessary items include an extra face mask, backpack, lunch box, water bottle, & Home/School Communication Folder (the folder will be provided by the school).

IMPORTANT: Please remember to label all of your student’s belongings that will be coming to school with their name!

I would like to get to know more about you and your student! Parents/Guardians, please take a few minutes to complete my Parent/Guardian Survey so that I can get to know you & better understand your expectations for this school year. I also have a Student Survey for your 4th grader to fill out so that I can learn more about them before the new school year starts. Both surveys are available online and can be found at the links below:

Our 4th grade class will have it’s very own class website! I am currently in the process of finishing our website that I created using Google Sites.

On the website, you’ll be able to find important information about our school & district, contact information, announcements, our calendar & newsletter, our Virtual Bitmoji Classroom, & more!

I will always make sure to contact you regarding important information via your preferred contact method. Creating a classroom website is just a fun way for me to keep all of our classroom information in one place.

RSU 87 will be returning to school using the Hybrid Model. This will be a new way of doing things for all of us, so I greatly appreciate your patience during this time.

In the Hybrid Model, students will go to school for 2 days a week and learn from home for 3 days a week. Parents/Guardians will receive a weekly schedule every Friday that will detail what students will be learning about each day while at home & at school.

The online learning platform that 4th graders will be using this year is Google Classroom. Seesaw will be used for online communication. Detailed instructions for both Google Classroom & Seesaw will be sent home soon.

I have high expectations for my students this year. 4th graders, you are the oldest students in the school and it’s very important that we act as role models for the younger students. We will discuss Classroom Expectations & what a role model looks like during the first few days of school.

12 of 23

During the first few days of school, students and I will discuss our Class Rules or Norms. We will brainstorm ideas together as a class and then decide on an agreed upon set of Classroom Rules.

13 of 23

For homework, 4th graders will be expected to read for 20-30 minutes each night. I will be sending home more information about this when school starts. There will be incentives at the end of each month for students who reach their reading goals!

I don’t plan on assigning more homework for students. The only exception would be if a student needed extra practice on a certain concept or didn’t finish something in class.

14 of 23

Students will not be allowed to share school supplies & materials this year. I will do my best to provide each student with their own set of supplies, but I only have a limited amount that will eventually run out. If you would like to purchase school supplies for your 4th grader, the following items would be useful: pencils, pens, crayons, a pencil box, dry erase markers, & a water bottle. Students will be allowed to bring a backpack to school & keep it on the back of their chair. Students will be provided with a storage bin to keep all materials in at their desk.

Students will practice many different types of writing, including opinion, informative/explanatory,
