1.Wanda’s story tells us how a poor young girl is judged by her classmates.

2.Wanda is a Polish girl who studies with American girls in America.

3.Other children Perceive Wanda as different and bully her.

Let us find out how other children treat her.

Wanda Petronski

  • She is a polish girl. She came from Boggins Heights. She had no friends though many talk to her.
  • Sits at the corner of the class room beside rough boys .
  • She came to school alone and always wore a faded blue dress.
  • Her name and accent was strange to the American students.
  • She always claimed that she had hundred dresses all lined up in her closet to avoid humiliation.

Peggie

  • Peggy and Maddie sat on the front bench with high scorers.
  • Peggy was a popular and pretty girl with curly hair and many dresses.
  • They made fun with Wanda. Peggy was not cruel because she protected small children from bullies.
  • She weeps if animals are mistreated.
  • Peggie could not understand why Wanda lies she had hundred dresses.
  • Peggy was good in drawing.

Maddie

  • Maddie was the close friend of Peggy. She was poor.
  • She wore somebody’s hand-me-down cloths.
  • She was embarrassed to hear Peggy asking Wanda about her dresses in a mocking polite voice.
  • Maddie didn’t question Peggy's behavior because she wanted to be her friend
  • Maddie remembers Wanda’ talking about a pale blue dress with trimmings and the brilliant jungle green with a red sash.

Colouring contest

  • Boys had to design motorboats and girls dresses.
  • Maddie thought Peggy will win the contest.
  • Next day Peggy and Maddie hurried to school to know the winners.
  • The classroom was filled with dazzling colours and lavish designs.
  • A hundred of them, all lined up.
  • Among boys, Jack Beggles won. For girls, Wanda won.
  • She drew hundred . As per judge’s opinion, any one of the drawing is worthy of winning the prize.
  • Unfortunately, Wanda has been absent from school for somedays.
