AA vs AS vs AAS - transfer impact
NJ Transfer Agreement/intro to NJ Transfer site - using Transfer Program option to plan electives and Transcript Evaluation in future to confirm transferable courses
Developmental Course - provide extra review on topics such as algebra, reading, writing. Build additional skills that leads to greater success in upper level courses.
CLEP - test available in numerous subjects. If student earns specified score, they will receive transfer credits for the course (Ex: SPA 101, 102)
Transcript - list of all courses with grades earned.
STEM - Science Technology Engineering Math - majors within division. STEMpact advisors can assist
Gen Ed = choice of class from state approved course list that fits a specific category. Ex: Page 49 of catalog
Elective = any course - free choice
Union County College Foundation = raise money to give back to students as scholarships!
Academic probation = below 2.0 GPA in the semester. Limited to 13 credits in the upcoming semester until GPA is raised above a 2.0.
Syllabus = professor contact information, office hours, course guidelines, calendar, assignments, grading - do not lose!
Office hours = professors have scheduled time each week when they are available in their offices to assist students. Visit them and ask questions!
Withdraw - after the first five days of class, if you drop a could, you will earn a grade of “W”. It does not affect your GPA in any way, but it could hurt your financial aid eligibility. Talk with an advisor before withdrawing from any class.
Add/Drop period - specific time period at the start of each semester (first 5 days) when you can drop a class and not have a “W” grade. Still responsible for half of the tuition charge for the course - not a full refund. Talk with an advisor before dropping any class.
HESAA - Organization that manages the financial aid awarded by the state of NJ. - NJTAG (Tuition Aid Grant), NJSTARS. Be sure to respond to mail and email from them! If you don’t respond, you may lose out on free grant money.

Course credits - 1 credit = 1 hour per week of class time. At least estimate double that for homework. 3 credit class = 3 hours/week in class + 6 hours/week homework = 9 hours dedicated to that one class.

Typical full time schedule is 15 credits
15 hours/week in classroom + 30 hours homework = 45 hours/week dedicated to school! Full time student = full time job
