What to expect for 8th Grade

  • House/team concept will continue
  • Earlier start & finish (7:50-2:30)
  • 8 periods instead of 9.
  • Longer periods. No blocks. No A,B,C Days.
  • Real choice in choosing classes
  • Students will have opportunity to select classes for at least 2 of the 8 periods of the day.
  • Some elective classes carry high school credit.

You will earn high school credit for some elective courses passed. It is important to try your best in all classes because final grades will be calculated into your grade point average and will be on your transcript that will be sent to colleges and sometimes even employers.

  • Students may only take a course 1 time.
  • Students may take 2 different music classes.
  • No student should take more than 1 World Language.
  • Art 8 and Intro to Woods are the only electives that do NOT carry a high school credit.
  • Students need to choose wisely as schedule changes will not be allowed.

  • Grades are the number one item colleges use to select students for admission
  • Grades are a key factor in qualifying for scholarship money
  • High school grades will give a perspective employer an indication of the type of worker a student is
  • Your high school transcript will begin with the grades earned in these elective classes

    • Pick classes that you think you will enjoy and are interested in taking.
    • Pick classes in which you think you will do well (earn an A or B)

ONLINE REGISTRATION

  • The window to register will begin on January 18th and end on January 25th.
  • Students and parents should watch the “How to register for 8th grade classes online” video to learn the process. The video is on the middle school counselor page on the PCSD website as well as the students’ math & learning lab Google classrooms
  • Required classes will already be entered for students
  • Students will need to enter elective choices
  • Students taking an Honors course will need to add those courses

ONLINE REGISTRATION

  • Students not completing online registration by 1/25/22 or any new students will need to complete a paper registration form.
  • Paper registration forms can be found on the PCSD webite and are available in the couselors’offices.
  • Counselors will meet with each 7th grader individually after 1/25/22 to ensure the choices have been correctly entered.
