What is the Arrow of Light to Scout Transition

The Arrow of Light-to-Scouts BSA Transition is a coordinated process between the pack, troop, Scout and family that prepares 5th-grade Arrow of Light Scouts for Scouts BSA, connects them with a troop, and supports them through crossover and into their first year of troop participation

6 of 26

Why is this Process Important ?

The transition is really a youth-retention strategy. The objective is to make sure an Arrow of Light Scout doesn't simply finish Cub Scouting and disappear. The pack, troop and commissioner team work together so that every Arrow of Light Scout has an opportunity to continue their Scouting journey in Scouts BSA. Scouting America identifies the ongoing relationship among the pack leadership, Arrow of Light den leader and troop leadership as the key factor in a successful transition

The process should begin months before crossover and continue months afterward. The recommended framework starts troop/pack coordination as early as August, recommends crossover around February, and continues integration through summer camp.

When should this Process Begin?

Lunch & Learn: Mastering Your Scouts BSA Elevator Speech

SCOUTS BSA / LUNCH & LEARN

07

Ever find yourself fumbling for the right words when a potential chartering organization, or interested family asks, "So what exactly is Scouts BSA?" This Lunch & Learn is built to fix that.

Join us for a practical session designed to equip executives with a clear, compelling elevator speech for the two audiences that matter most to our program's growth:

Chartering Organizations — Learn how to frame Scouts BSA as a values-driven leadership program that strengthens the community and reflects well on the organizations that sponsor it.

Potential Funders — Walk away with language that speaks to their bottom line: Scouts BSA builds tomorrow's workforce today, developing measurable skills like project management, strategic thinking, accountability, and ethical leadership — the same competencies employers actively look for.

Potential Scouting Families — Get comfortable explaining, in under 30 seconds, why Scouts BSA is worth a family's time and why it delivers real, lasting value for their kids.

What You'll Get: A ready-to-use elevator speech template you can adapt on the spot, key talking points backed by real outcomes (leadership, accountability, real-world skills), to build confidence before you're put on the spot in real conversations.

Who Should Attend: Unit serving Executives

Bring your lunch, bring your questions, and leave ready to talk about Scouts BSA like a pro.
