B-VISION IMPACT AWARD FOR SERVICE

Center for Indian Cultural Education – Bal Vihar of St. Louis - Volunteering

  1. There is been a pause in PVSA administering awards. Balvihar will give out the B-Vision Impact award starting in 2025-26 to honor youth volunteers.
  2. Service to Mankind is Service to God.
  3. Every voluntary work has two characteristics. The first is meaningful engagement and the other is mindful participation.
    • Choose work that interests you and do it because you are interested in the cause and mission of the organization.

ELIGIBILITY…

Volunteer Eligibility

    • Balvihar youth registered in the youth classes
    • Must be at least five years old
    • Completes eligible service within a 12-month period (for annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards)

NOTE:

- Audit-able proof required from Beneficiary Organization for volunteer hours (Email approval or Certificate)

  • Last day to apply is April 6, 2025, for the year 2025-26. No application forms and/or supporting documents will be accepted after this date. There will be no exceptions to this.
  • Only BV registered youth can apply. and applicant cannot apply for the B-Vision Impact award at multiple organizations for the same year. 

1. Pre-requisites for applying for the award:

    • 75% attendance in classes
    • Volunteer for a minimum of at least two Bal Vihar service projects (Community Projects, Republic Day, CANstruction, etc).
    • Please email the B-Vision Impact award Coordinator pvsa@balvihar-stlouis.org by September 30, 2025, about intent to apply for this year. There will no exceptions if you do not express an interest by the date above. There will be two touchpoint meetings on September 28th , Saturday by zoom 10.00am, and March 9th, Sunday afternoon (Zoom) to guide applicants through the application process. Youth Attendance to these meetings is strongly encouraged and is mandatory to attend both meetings.
    • Once you confirm participation in B-Vision Impact award, we will share a tracking sheet and the youth will be expected to track all their hours on that sheet through the year. For balvihar events, please get the approvals from the teachers and coordinators as soon as the volunteering is complete.
    • Parents should support the kids and it is strongly encouraged that the youth communicate directly with the B-Vision Impact award team.

2. Prior to submitting application, validate BV hours with those who assigned the volunteer hours, via email.

          • Classroom teaching: Shubha Subbarao/classroom teacher
          • Community Projects: Shoba Sekhar
          • BV Main Events (Republic Day, etc):Shanthi/Komal
          • Save the email communication as a PDF and upload. �

3. Prior to submitting application, get authentic proof of volunteer hours from non-BV organizations (example: letterhead, official email, etc)

4. Complete tracking log that is uploaded on BV website https://balvihar-stlouis.com/Volunteering

It is important to keep a tracking log all through the year of your volunteer hours. �

5. Upload tracking log and all other documents via application. Let non-BV organizations know that we may reach out to them to verify the hours.

SOME WAYS TO VOLUNTEER�(Unpaid Acts Of Volunteer Service Benefitting Others)

  • Participate in Service Opportunities offered by Bal-Vihar
  • Be a Student Teacher at Bal-Vihar
  • Serve meals at a local shelter or community kitchen
  • Become a tutor or mentor with an after-school program
  • Host a resume writing/review workshop
  • Conduct practice interviews
  • Organize a food donation drive- get a list of items local food pantries need in advance
  • Connect with local, state, or national park services to beautify parks
  • Serve at a community garden
  • Make and distribute disaster preparedness kits
  • Collect and share information about free tax prep services
  • Read to students or seniors- contact a local community or senior center
  • Volunteer at an animal shelter

AGE CATEGORY

  • I'm 15-16 years old. What group do I fall in: Teens or Young Adults?
  •  Age category is determined by the age a volunteer is for at least 7 months out of a designated 12-month award period'. 
  • The designated period for Bal Vihar is April 1, 2025 - March 31, 2026. For the designated period, if the youth is 15 years of age for at least seven of those months, then that youth would fall in the Teens group. For the same designated period, if the youth is 16 years of age for at least seven of those months, then that youth would fall in the Young Adults group.
