Students can create their own trailers of books, plays, poems, short stories read in class on i-Movie or Windows Moviemaker.

Trailers can be easily shared on YouTube via a class channel (See: playlist).

DIGITALES

Students can turn their narrative essays into digital stories on i-Movie or Windows Moviemaker by first drafting narratives, storyboarding the scenes, then combining images, voiceovers, video segments and sound effects into short movies. Videos can be shared on YouTube via a class channel/playlist. The process and the endproduct can be assessed separately.

Students can (collaboratively) design websites on Wix, Weebly or Google Sites to display their portfolio work, journal entries, research findings, class projects, term projects, lab and book reports featuring both text and a rich variety of multimedia.

Students can use their smartphones to create and film performances, puppet shows, poetry recitations,

demonstrations, parodies, documentaries, unseen scenes, and related to/based on class texts and share them on YouTube.

Tips for Success

  • Start small; be flexible.
  • Quality/Organization of ideas, first; production, second!
  • Allow students choice of content and platform.
  • Let students teach themselves the technology.
  • Use YouTube tutorials; Google it; get tech support.
  • Let students work on projects during class.
  • Require outlines, written drafts and copyrights permission.
  • Involve students in assessment (goals & rubrics).
  • The brain’s learning is pleasure-induced, so have some fun!
