Safety

• It is the responsibility of the students and faculty to promote safety on the school buses and in school situations in general. If a student discovers an unsafe condition, he/she should report it to the office immediately.
• High School Students must have a nurses pass
• If a student receives minor cuts or bruises, he/she should be brought to the office for first aid. If injured seriously, however, the student should not be moved, and aid should be sought.
• All cases of accident or illness are to be reported to the office.
• Parents, a relative or a family friend will be contacted if the student should go home of illness or an injury.
• It is very important that we have on file names of individuals other than parents who can be called in case of an emergency.

Additional Requirements

• Discipline Policy – hard copy available and on website- updates were made last spring to clarify gray areas and were approved by the committees and the school board this summer

• Parental Involvement Plan – In handbook and on website as well as social media. We are all enjoying the increased participation and involvement of all stakeholders and our students will benefit from these efforts.

• 13 Courses Offered through Virtual Arkansas (Ark. Tech grants college credit) = 39 hours total

Representing the Community

Clubs and Activities:

• We are very proud of our clubs and activities, each year many of our community service projects are completed and awards are won at the local, state and national level.
• Clubs that we currently offer include: EAST, Spanish Club, BETA Club, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Quiz Bowl, Chess, Choir, and Art Club
• We currently participate in the following sports: Football, Cross Country, Boys and Girls Basketball, Softball and Baseball

IDEA:

• WHS currently serves students in the Special Education Department with one instructor for Math students and one instructor serving English students. A part time speech therapist is available for high school students as needed.

Interventions and Extensions in place for achieving needed Growth

• High school has a new system in place to track student progress and target needed interventions as well as get the student to take ownership of their work to growth and learn what is needed.
• Early release Wednesday used for teacher’s to meet together and compare student work, data, and instructional strategies to improve practice

● DESE approves GT funding for only 5% students identified of the total

population.

2) Grade level services begin:

● K-3 is served with Whole Group Enrichment and Pull-out GT classes begin in

Grade 4-6

3) Program Options:

● K-3 is served with Talents Unlimited trained classroom teachers 3 times a month

& w/once a month K-3 Enrichment with the GT Coordinator

● 4-6 GT Resource Classroom w/150 mins per week

● 7-12 Honors, Acceleration & Secondary Content

● 11-12 AP Courses & College Courses/Concurrent Credit (HS & College Credit)

4) Celebrations:

● Most Elementary Teachers are trained in Talents Unlimited

● Some of our 4-6 grade students have participated in Engineering Day

● Misty Davis attended the AAGEA Conference and learned valuable information

about being a new coordinator, the successes that can be achieved by gifted

students, and help with affective needs.

Elementary overall ESSA score held steady ast 68.86% which is up 1.52% from our last score of 67.34 but still not where we were pre pandemic @ 70.07%. Celebrating the small successful gain.

​

Two main indicators that need our focus to obtain growth are lack of growth in comparison to state in literacy for our learning disabled students followed by student engagement/attendance rating which went from 51% last year up to 57% so a small gain there but we still need to do better in both these areas.

​

Our Goal is an overall improvement in our ESSA score to 72.17 to achieve our next goal of a B rating.

Next Steps for Woodlawn Elementary

The past year was a success and we are getting to live out our mission! That’s something to celebrate!!!
