Freshman Year - Intro to Biotechnology and Patient Care

Learn the biotechnology used in forensics to investigate crimes

• Learn how to treat patients with basic clinical care!

• Explore your DNA and genes with biotechnology!

Patient Care vs. Biotech

Sophomore year: you can take patient care one semester and biotech the next semester if you are curious about both!

Patient Care

With Mrs. Ramirez

• Learn about systems in the human body (anatomy and physiology)
• Learn hands on skills for teaching each system:
• Athletic Training skills such as ankle wrapping and splinting
• Circulatory and respiratory skills such CPR, AED use, taking a blood pressure, reading EKGs to tell if someone has the correct heart beat.
• Do lots of dissections.
• Learn about wound care.
• Presentations by nurses and other people in medical fields.
• Potential BLS certificate at the end

Learn about the different human body systems by building your own clay model!

Participate in cool dissections as you learn about:

• The heart
• The brain
• The kidneys
• The eyes
• And much more!

Biotech With Mr. Ramirez

Learn lab skills for working in a lab setting right out of high school!

Practice skills such as:

• Gel electrophoresis
• Blood and urine testing
• Culturing bacteria
• Testing antibiotic effectiveness and viral treatment effectiveness
• Transforming bacteria (making them glow)
• PCR (making copies of DNA to identify pathogens and identify genetic disorders)
• Potential certifications at the end!
