Project overview
The problem:
Traditional healthcare communication among doctors faces inefficiencies and challenges. Conventional methods often involve time-consuming processes, lack of seamless collaboration, and potential breaches of patient privacy. Additionally, finding relevant patient information and seeking expert opinions can be cumbersome. These limitations hinder effective medical case discussions and decision-making. Healr aims to solve these problems by providing a specialized messaging app tailored to doctors, facilitating efficient communication, secure data exchange, and collaborative medical case discussions.
Project overview
The goal:
Create an intuitive and efficient messaging app specifically for doctors to enhance healthcare communication and collaboration. The goal is to design a user-centric interface that streamlines the exchange of medical information, improves decision-making, and facilitates seamless medical case discussions. Healr aims to empower doctors with a secure platform that maximizes productivity, enhances patient care, and fosters collaboration among healthcare professionals.
My role:
As the sole UX Designer for Healr, I led the end-to-end design process of the medical messaging app. From ideation to implementation, I meticulously crafted a user-centric interface, ensuring seamless collaboration and efficient communication among doctors. Throughout the 7-day competition, I was responsible for conceptualizing the app's functionalities, conducting user research, creating wireframes and mockups, and ultimately delivering a fully functional and intuitive mobile application tailored to the unique needs of healthcare professionals.
Project overview
Responsibilities:
As the UX Designer for Healr, my responsibilities encompassed conducting extensive user research to identify the needs and pain points of doctors, developing wireframes and prototypes to visualize the app's interface and user flow, and conducting usability testing to gather valuable feedback and iterate on the design. My aim was to create a user-centered app that streamlines healthcare communication, facilitates efficient patient management, and enables seamless medical case discussions, ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience for doctors.

User research: summary
Given the time constraints of the 7-day UX competition, conducting in-depth interviews or surveys with healthcare professionals proved challenging. However, I adopted a resourceful approach by leveraging secondary research methods to gain valuable insights into the needs and preferences of doctors.
Through extensive online research, I explored medical forums, publications, and articles that discussed communication challenges faced by healthcare professionals. I also analyzed existing medical messaging apps and user reviews to identify common pain points and features desired by doctors. This secondary research provided a foundational understanding of the target users and the context in which Healr would operate.
Key findings from the user research highlighted the following: Communication Inefficiencies, Data Security Concerns, Collaboration Needs, Efficient Patient Management and Multimedia Exchange.
Despite the limited scope of primary research, the secondary research findings were instrumental in guiding the app's design and feature prioritization. I ensured that Healr's UX/UI addressed the identified pain points and aligned with the preferences of healthcare professionals. As a result, Healr is tailored to meet the unique communication needs of doctors, providing a secure, user-friendly, and efficient platform for medical collaboration. Moving forward, additional user research and feedback will be essential for continuous improvements and refinements to the app.
User research: pain points
Inefficient Communication
Doctors face challenges with inefficient communication methods, such as delayed response times and difficulties in reaching colleagues across different medical specialties and institutions.
Limited Access to Patient Information
Obtaining relevant patient information, such as medical records and test results, can be time-consuming and cumbersome, hindering timely decision-making and patient care.
Lack of Secure Collaboration
Existing communication platforms may not provide adequate security measures to ensure the confidentiality of patient data, leading to concerns about data breaches.
Complex Medical Case Discussions
Doctors encounter difficulties in collaborating on complex medical cases, including challenges in securely exchanging medical images, videos, and voice recordings for comprehensive discussions.

User journey map
In order to gain a deeper understanding of our users' experiences, a user journey map was created to analyze every stage of the medical communication and collaboration process for our personas.
Starting
the design
Paper wireframes
During the Healr design phase, wireframing was key to creating a user-centric medical messaging app. Iterations of each screen were sketched on paper and transferred to digital wireframes, addressing doctors' pain points. The process prioritized seamless communication, efficient patient management, and easy access to essential medical information. This resulted in a clean and intuitive interface, optimizing the user experience for healthcare professionals using Healr.
Stars were used to mark the elements of each sketch that would be used in the initial digital wireframes.
Paper wireframes
Iterating on paper wireframes proved to be an efficient and time-saving approach for the Healr project. Refining the initial paper prototypes allowed for crucial design adjustments before transitioning to the digital design phase. This iterative process enabled me to pinpoint and address user pain points effectively, resulting in the creation of digital wireframes that offer an intuitive and seamless experience for the app's users.
Digital wireframes
Throughout the design phase of Healr, I closely considered user research feedback to tailor screen designs, addressing specific pain points and user preferences. The app prioritizes an inclusive experience, ensuring efficient communication and collaborative medical case discussions for healthcare professionals. Emphasizing data security and compliance, Healr fosters trust among doctors, enhancing overall patient care.
The Quick Chat feature in Healr enables instant one-on-one and group conversations, fostering efficient communication and seamless collaboration among doctors.
The search bar on Healr's chats tab enables efficient contact and message management. Users can swiftly find specific contacts and access important conversations.
Digital wireframes
Healr prioritizes patient privacy, securely storing media within the app to prevent saving on user devices. The design focuses on intuitive navigation, facilitating seamless access to patient information and secure medical case discussions. Additionally, Healr ensures compatibility with assistive technologies, delivering a user-friendly experience for all healthcare professionals.
Healr streamlines patient file management with essential features like file renaming for clarity and a powerful search filter for quick access, enhancing efficiency for healthcare professionals.
Healr ensures secure media sharing by saving files within the app, not on user devices. Users have the option to save files on their device by long-pressing the file.
Low-fidelity prototype
A low-fidelity prototype was created using completed digital wireframes to test and validate the app's primary user flow. This ensured usability for efficient communication, exchanging patient information, and collaborating on medical cases, crucial for the messaging app designed for healthcare professionals.

Mockups
High-fidelity mockups were created to present the final visual design of the app. These mockups provided a realistic representation of the user interface, showcasing the app's brand identity, colors, typography, and layout. By visualizing the app's screens and interactions, the mockups played a pivotal role in refining and fine-tuning the app's design, ensuring a user-centric and visually appealing experience for healthcare professionals using Healr.
