Matthew 2; Luke 2We Have Come to Worship Him
Ancient prophets foretold the Savior’s birth
Ancient prophets foretold the Savior’s birth
SCRIPTURE
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
- Matthew 2:1-6
Ancient prophets foretold the Savior’s birth
Dallin H. Oaks
Of the First Presidency
Isaiah, a great prophet of the Old Testament, announced the coming birth of the Messiah…The birth of Christ was also revealed to Book of Mormon prophets. Six hundred years before the Savior’s birth, Lehi taught that God would raise up among the Jews “a Messiah, or, in other words, a Savior of the world”. The prophet Abinadi declared: “Did not Moses prophesy unto them concerning the coming of the Messiah, and that God should redeem his people? Yea, and even all the prophets who have prophesied ever since the world began—have they not spoken more or less concerning these things?”…
The prophet Nephi recorded how an angel showed him a virgin in the city of Nazareth, declaring, “Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh…And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms. And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father!”

SCRIPTURE
9 …and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
- Matthew 2:9-12
I can give good gifts to Jesus
Cristina B. Franco
Former Member of the Primary General Presidency
Brothers and sisters, how can we today enjoy… peace and good will toward men? As I have pondered this question for the last several weeks,… three gifts we can each give came to mind. We, of course, give these gifts throughout the year…
[G]ive love… Our Savior taught us by example to love everyone. He also taught us to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
[G]ive service… Kind words and deeds can lift burdens and cheer up hearts! Our Father in Heaven invites us all to give service.
[G]ive forgiveness. Forgiving others brings peace and joy to our lives… Our Father in Heaven wants us to repent and forgive everyone—including ourselves… Brothers and sisters… let us all give the best gifts.

“Give,” Said the Little Stream(Children’s Songbook #236)
MUSIC
1. “Give,” said the little stream,
“Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.”
“Give,” said the little stream,
As it hurried down the hill;
“I’m small, I know, but wherever I go The fields grow greener still.”
2. “Give,” said the little rain,
“Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.”
“Give,” said the little rain,
As it fell upon the flow’rs;
“I’ll raise their drooping heads again,”
As it fell upon the flow’rs.

3. Give, then, as Jesus gives,
Give, oh! give, give, oh! give.
Give, then, as Jesus gives;
There is something all can give.
Do as the streams and blossoms do:
For God and others live.
Chorus:
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh! give away.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh! give away.”

SCRIPTURE
13-14 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
19-21 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life. And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

Parents can receive revelation to protect their families
Joy D. Jones
Former Primary General President
Today the war continues with increased intensity. The battle touches us all, and our children are on the front lines facing the opposing forces. Thus, the need intensifies for us to strengthen our spiritual strategies. Fortifying children to become sin-resistant is a task and a blessing for parents, grandparents, family members, teachers, and leaders. We each bear responsibility to help…
How to “bring up [our] children in light and truth” may be a challenging question since it is individualized for each family and each child, but Heavenly Father has given universal guidelines that will help us. The Spirit will inspire us in the most effective ways we can spiritually inoculate our children…I testify that Jesus Christ leads this Church. As you teach, lead, and love children in the Savior’s way, you can receive personal revelation that will aid you in creating and arming valiant, sin-resistant children.

Love is Spoken Here(Children’s Songbook #190)
MUSIC
1. (Girls) I see my mother kneeling
with our family each day.
I hear the words she whispers
as she bows her head to pray.
Her plea to the Father
quiets all my fears,
And I am thankful
love is spoken here.

2. (Boys) Mine is a home where ev’ry hour
is blessed by the strength of priesthood pow’r,
With father and mother leading the way,
Teaching me how to trust and obey;
And the things they teach are crystal clear,
For love is spoken here.
(3rd ending) I can often feel the Savior near
When love is spoken here.

Jesus Christ was born in humble circumstances
SCRIPTURE
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
- Luke 2:4-7
Jesus Christ was born in humble circumstances
Neil L. Andersen
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
The stories of Jesus can be like a rushing wind across the embers of faith in the hearts of our children. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The stories of Jesus shared over and over bring faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strength to the foundation of testimony. Can you think of a more valuable gift for our children? Are the life and teachings of Jesus Christ embedded in the minds and souls of our children? Do they think about the Savior’s life when they wonder what to do in their own lives? This will be more and more important in the years ahead…
Do they think about His humble birth, the Savior of the world lying in a manger? Do His circumstances help them better understand the proper place of material possessions?...Have we told them of the love Jesus has for children, how He held them in His arms, prayed for them, and wept? Do our children know that Jesus stands ready “with open arms to receive [them]”?
- Elder Neil L. Andersen, “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus,”General Conference, April 2010
Away in a Manger(Children's Songbook #42-43)
MUSIC
1. Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;
The stars in the heavens looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
2. The cattle are lowing; the poor baby wakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.
3. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
And fit us for heaven to live with thee there

Jesus Christ was born in humble circumstances
Jesus grew “in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Jesus grew “in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
SCRIPTURE
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
- Luke 2:40, 52
Jesus grew “in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Hugo E. Martinez
Of the Seventy
The Children’s Guidebook says: “When Jesus was your age, He learned and grew. You are learning and growing too. The scriptures say: ‘Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man’.” This scripture refers to growth and learning in the spiritual aspect, favor with God; the social aspect, favor with man; the physical aspect, stature; and the intellectual aspect, wisdom. These developmental areas apply to all of us, no matter our age… let us follow our Savior, Jesus Christ, and His gospel by becoming self-reliant throughout our lives and teaching this to our children and youth.
- Elder Hugo E. Martinez, “Teaching Self-Reliance to Children and Youth,” General Conference, April 2022
I Will Walk with Jesus(Primary 2020 Theme Song)
MUSIC
1. Jesus walked in wisdom; Jesus grew in truth.
He showed love to God and man while in His youth.
Jesus wants to guide me. Jesus shows the way,
Calling me to come and walk with Him each day.
2. I can grow like Jesus. I will try each day,
Promising to walk His path and there to stay.
Standing by my Savior, safe within His care,
Step by step I’ll follow, and His love I’ll share.
3. I will trust in Jesus. I will hear His call.
He will never leave me, even when I fall.
Jesus gives me power, lifts and comforts me,
Helping me to live and grow eternally.
Words: Mary M. Dodge, about 1831–1905
Music: W. K. Bassford, 1839–1902

SCRIPTURE
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
46-47 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48-49 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
- Luke 42-43, 46-49
Even as a youth, Jesus was focused on doing His Father’s will
Thomas S. Monson
Former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
2008-2018
Precious little is written concerning the childhood of Jesus. One might suppose that His birth was so revolutionary in its magnitude as to dominate accounts of His boyhood. We marvel at the mature wisdom of the boy who, leaving Joseph and Mary, was found in the temple, “sitting in the midst of the doctors,” teaching them the gospel. When Mary and Joseph expressed their concern about His absence, He asked of them the penetrating question: “Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
The sacred record declares of Him: “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” An obscure passage describes the transition from child to man: He “went about doing good.

Jesus Once Was a Little Child(Children's Songbook #55)
MUSIC
1. Jesus once was a little child,
A little child like me;
And he was pure and meek and mild,
As a little child should be.
2. He played as little children play
The pleasant games of youth;
But he never got vexed if the game went wrong,
And he always spoke the truth.
