Cornerstone

4 of 86

My hope is built on nothing lessThan Jesus’ blood and

righteousnessI dare not trust the sweetest

frameBut wholly trust in Jesus’ name

5 of 86

Christ alone

Cornerstone

Weak made strong

In the Savior’s love

Through the storm

He is Lord

Lord of all

6 of 86

When darkness seems to hide

His face

I rest on His unchanging grace

In every high and stormy gale

My anchor holds within the veil

My anchor holds within the veil

7 of 86

Christ alone

Cornerstone

Weak made strong

In the Savior’s love

Through the storm

He is Lord

Lord of all

8 of 86

When he shall come

with trumpet sound

Oh may I then in Him be found

Dressed in His righteousness

alone

Faultless stand before the

throne

9 of 86

Christ alone

Cornerstone

Weak made strong

In the Savior’s love

Through the storm

He is Lord

Lord of all

Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me

11 of 86

What gift of grace

is Jesus my Redeemer

There is no more

for heaven now to give

12 of 86

He is my joy

my righteousness

and freedom

My steadfast love, my deep

and boundless peace

13 of 86

To this I hold

my hope is only Jesus

For my life

is wholly bound to His

14 of 86

Oh how strange and divine

I can sing all is mine

Yet not I

But through Christ in me

15 of 86

The night is dark

But I am not forsaken

For by my side

the Savior He will stay

16 of 86

I labor on

in weakness and rejoicing

For in my need

his power is displayed

17 of 86

To this I hold

My Shepherd will defend me

Through the deepest

valley He will lead

18 of 86

Oh the night has been won

And I shall overcome

Yet not I

But through Christ in me

19 of 86

No fate I dread

I know I am forgiven

The future sure

The price it has been paid

20 of 86

For Jesus bled

And suffered for my pardon

And He was raised

to overthrow the grave

21 of 86

To this I hold

My sin has been defeated

Jesus now

and ever is my plea

22 of 86

Oh the chains are released

I can sing I am free

Yet not I

But through Christ in me

23 of 86

With every breath

I long to follow Jesus

For He has said

that He will bring me home

24 of 86

And day by day

I know He will renew me

Until I stand

with joy before the throne

25 of 86

To this I hold

My hope is only Jesus

All the glory evermore to Him

When the race is complete

Still my lips shall repeat

Yet not I

But through Christ in me

Scripture Reading

1 John 3:1–10

27 of 86

1 John 3:1–10

1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

28 of 86

1 John 3:1–10

4 Everyone who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

The Benefits and Responsibilities of Childhood

1 John 3:1–10

43 of 86

What’s wrong with grown-ups? (According to ten-year-olds)

  1. Grown-ups make promises, then forget all about them, or else they say it wasn’t really a promise, just a maybe.
  2. Grown-ups don’t do the things they’re always telling the children to do--like pick up their things, or be neat, or always tell the truth.
  3. Grown-ups don’t really listen to what children have to say. They always decide ahead of time what they’re going to answer.

44 of 86

What’s wrong with grown-ups? (According to ten-year-olds)

  1. Grown-ups make mistakes but won’t admit it. They pretend they weren’t mistakes at all--or that somebody else made them.
  2. Grown-ups interrupt children all the time and think nothing of it. If a child interrupts a grownup, they’re scolded or something worse.

45 of 86

What’s wrong with grown-ups? (According to ten-year-olds)

  1. Grown-ups don’t understand how much children want a certain thing--a certain color or shape or size. If it’s something they don't admire--even if the children have spent their own money for it--they say, “I can't imagine what you want with that old thing!”

46 of 86

What’s wrong with grown-ups? (According to ten-year-olds)

  1. Sometimes grown-ups punish children unfairly. It isn’t right if you do one little thing wrong and grown-ups take away something that means a lot to you. Other times, you do something really bad and they say they’re going to punish you, but they don’t. You never know, and you ought to know.

47 of 86

What’s wrong with grown-ups? (According to ten-year-olds)

  1. Grown-ups are talk about what they did and what they knew when they were ten. But they never think what it’s like to be 10 years old right now.

Ex. 31:13 “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

Lev. 11:44 I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. 45 I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.

58 of 86

Lev. 19:2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.

Lev. 20:7 “ ‘Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the LORD your God. 8 Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

64 of 86

1 John 3:1–10

7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 Everyone who commits sin is a child of the devil; for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

65 of 86

1 John 3:1–10

9 Those who have been born of God do not sin, because God’s seed abides in them; they cannot sin, because they have been born of God. 10 The children of God and the children of the devil are revealed in this way: all who do not do what is right are not from God, nor are those who do not love their brothers and sisters.

Can you catch the logical flaw?

      • Neary all sick people have eaten carrots. Obviously, the effects are cumulative.
      • An estimated 99.9% of all people who die from cancer and heart disease have eaten carrots.
      • 99.9% of people involved in car crashes ate carrots within 60 days of their accidents.
      • 93.1% of juvenile delinquents come from homes where carrots are served regularly.
      • Among the people born in 1839 who later ate carrots, there has been a 100% mortality rate.
      • Conclusion: Therefore, don’t eat carrots.

68 of 86

Application

  1. Examine actions. To whom do our actions pledge allegiance? Begin or develop your relationship with God starting now.
  2. Take time to be holy.
  3. Pray for the lost.

Trust And Obey

70 of 86

When we walk with the Lord

In the light of His Word

What a glory He sheds on

our way

71 of 86

While we do His good will

He abides with us still

And with all who will

trust and obey

72 of 86

Trust and obey

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus

But to trust and obey

73 of 86

Not a shadow can rise

Not a cloud in the skies

But His smile quickly

drives it away

74 of 86

Not a doubt nor a fear

Not a sigh nor a tear

Can abide while we

trust and obey

75 of 86

Trust and obey

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus

But to trust and obey

76 of 86

But we never can prove

The delights of His love

Until all on the altar we lay

77 of 86

For the favor He shows

And the joy He bestows

Are for those who will

trust and obey

78 of 86

Trust and obey

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus

But to trust and obey

79 of 86

Then in fellowship sweet

We will sit at His feet

Or we’ll walk by His

side in the way

80 of 86

What He says we will do

Where He sends we will go

Never fear only trust

and obey

81 of 86

Trust and obey

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus

But to trust and obey
