Classical Data Collection Platform

  • Classical DCP consists of
    • Data Logger
    • Communication modem
    • Power supply ( Solar charge controller & battery)
    • Terminals for connection between DCP and Solar panel / Battery/ Sensor
    • Metal enclosure to accommodate everything above
    • Long cables connecting DCP to Sensor

Problems with DCP

    • Bulky as all the parts are seperate
    • High power consumption requiring bigger solar panels and battery
    • Complicated wiring requirements
    • Long cables connecting the DCP and sensors
      • Vulnerable to cable vandalism and theft
      • Vulnerable to lightning damages
    • Higher Mean Time to Repair
    • Requires a wall or solid structure for the placement of the heavy DCP
    • Difficulty in transportation of full equipment

Compact Data Collection Platform

A compact Data Collection Platform is the whole unit integrated into one.

  • Small and lightweight
  • All units inside a single weatherproof enclosure
  • Very low power consumption
  • Uses Li-ion batteries
  • Easy plugin connectors for solar and sensor connection

Why is CDCP a better option for you?

  • Extremely low power consumption
    • Allowing the use of small Li-ion battery
    • Small solar panel
  • Compact Size
    • Since of the compact design, installation and maintenance is easy and convenient.
  • No hassle over multiple devices to set up or maintain over time.
  • Ease of access and change of cables, connectors and sensors.
  • Simple issues and monitoring can be performed by the site observer.
  • Very low cost of ownership

Low Power Consumption

  • The tipping bucket rain gauge requires no power at all
  • The CDCP is extremely low power
  • The ARG requires very little power
  • So it uses Li-ion battery whose benefits are:
    • life is at least 3 to 4 times that of Lead acid battery
    • The li-ion can be fully charged in 1 hour whereas the lead acid batteries need to be recharged very slowly …lead acid batteries need 20 hours to be fully charged.
    • Depth of discharge
    • Lead acid only 30 to 40%
    • Lithium Ion: 80 to 90%

Small Solar Panel

  • Since the power consumption of CDCP is low, a 10W solar panel is enough.
  • Less chance of vandalism and theft due to small size
  • Even when solar panels is lost, the system works from 1 month to 2 months.

Compact Size

  • The CDCP is very compact and small
  • Since it is small it can be placed very close to the sensor
  • For example just below the rain gauge
  • So the signal cable is very short and hence less vulnerable to Lightning damages
  • Cheaper Transportation for Installation and Maintenance

Additional feature for communication

  • The CDCP can provide information on SIM signal strength ( CSQ )
    • Helps to be get a better understanding of the network conditions of the stations
  • In the CDCP display, there is also the option to see the SIM number and balance.
  • The CDCP has Dual SIM, hence can use two mobile operators making the communication reliable by two times.

Fencing Area is too small for Classical DCP

  • Fencing area allocated for ARG is 2.5m x 2.5m x 2m height
  • When you use a classical DCP, the DCP along with the solar panel will block rain hence the rainfall reading will be underestimated.
  • And DCP is too big to be kept below the rain gauge

Flooding

  • ARG’s are prone to flooding.
  • The site Lama (CL317) in Bangladesh, was completely submerged by flood
  • But the CDCP is completely fine although it was submerged
  • Because it is IP67,
  • Classical DCP can never be IP67 from the bottom.
  • The bid requirement was IP65, which would be damaged due to flooding/ complete submersion

Failure Rate

  • The system failure is the sum of the failure rats of all the parts
  • DCP has many parts that can fail
  • The integrated CDCP has less parts that can fail so it more reliable

Cheaper for Maintenance

  • Since the CDCP is small, you do not need a four wheel vehicle for maintenance or installation
  • A person can carry 3 to 4 CDCP’s in their backpack
  • Maintenance is possible simply by motorbike
  • CDCP only has two connectors, so even gauge reader can change faulty parts
  • Battery will last 3 to 4 times more so battery replacement will be cheaper too.

DCP trends

  • Due to the benefits of compact size all manufacturers have started designing a similar product
  • Examples:
  • CDCP-16 was designed in 2016 before all the products above

Warranty

  • Since we are so much more confident on the product, we provide 3 years warranty on our products.
  • Since we use li-ion we provide 5 years warranty on the battery.
