What is data?

Data are facts, information or numbers.

Data is collected and looked at carefully to help us make decisions about things.

We can gather data in different ways

We made different groups around Room 9 to show our favourite activity. The biggest group of learners was for Mangere Pools.

This is the data we collected when everyone voted by putting up their hands.

We voted by putting up our hands and recorded the numbers on the whiteboard. Mangere Pools received the most votes.

We could have used a tally chart to gather the data.

We also gathered data using Post It notes. Each person wrote their favourite activity on one. We sorted the data on a big piece of paper.
