IDENTIFY

Everybody is NOT a leader! You MUST play favorites

Recruit talented, undeveloped individuals who display three things consistently:

  1. The ability to gather, work well with, and motivate people
  2. The ability to understand the big picture when it comes to the ministry
  3. The ability to manage themselves well

DEVELOP

For identified individuals craft ministry or volunteer jobs as multi-year growth assignments that contain:

  • An evaluation of what is going well and where she/he needs improvement
  • 3-5 priorities she/he need to focus on in order to grow as a leader
  • Schedule at the very least monthly mentoring times

EMPOWER

Embrace the on-the-job training method of Jesus, which was providing relevant experience + constructive feedback

  3. You do…I assist
  4. You do…I watch

RELEASE

  • He or she is not your “mini-me;” she or he does not belong to you
  • Allow he or she to make their own mistakes and learn
  • Some of the leaders you develop will stay and some God will send away, so hold people loosely
