There are many good reasons why international students choose to ‘go Dutch’ and study in the Netherlands. Students will join a dynamic, cosmopolitan and multi-cultural community right in the heart of Europe. The programmes are a stepping-stone to an easy, culture-rich lifestyle and international career opportunities.

An international focus

Ever since the 17^th century when Holland was first a trade hub, we’ve welcomed people, products and ideas from around the globe. As the world becomes a smaller place, so our diverse and multicultural attitude grows. Our population is made up of over 100 different nationalities.

English speaking

Students do not need to speak Dutch to get a good education in the Netherlands. We were the first non-native English speaking country in Europe to offer international study programmes taught entirely in English. We started a trend and there are now over 1,150 such programmes.

Quality education

Dutch education is one of the most innovative and forward thinking systems in the world. It’s based on student-led learning, analytical debate and hands-on experience. Most of our programmes involve practical elements like work placements and team projects.

Lifestyle and culture

Holland is a rewarding place to be a student, offering a high standard of living at a fairly low cost. Dutch society is liberal and open-minded with a vibrant cultural scene. We have over 1,000 museums, which celebrate our national treasures including Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Vermeer. Outdoors types enjoy the endless sandy beaches and dunes on our North Sea coast.

Visas

The Hague University of Applied Sciences will apply on behalf of students who need a visa and/or a residence permit. Our university cooperates with the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) with a fast track-procedure to speed up the application process.

Career opportunities

International graduates have the opportunity to spend up to twelve months in the Netherlands employed on the Highly Skilled Migrants Scheme (Kennismigrantenregeling). During this period they have direct access to the Dutch labour market without a work permit as part of the Orientation Year for Graduates Seeking Employment (Zoekjaar Afgestudeerde) scheme.

How does a THUAS study year look?

Each academic year has 2 semesters

Each semester has 2 terms, followed by exam period

Each term lasts 6 weeks

Each exam period lasts 2 weeks: 1 for exams in that term, 1 for the re-sit of exams in previous term

School year normally starts in the end of August / beginning of September and ends in the beginning of �July the following year

After graduation?

All non-EU students may remain in the Netherlands for a year to look for a job and have the opportunity to stay on a long-term basis
For students wanting to start work upon graduation, employment rates are very high (80% within 4-months)
For students wanting to continue their studies to master's level, THUAS students have been welcomed at universities across the world (including prestigious institutions such as Cambridge).

IB admissions

If you have a full IB diploma, you have access to both 4-year programmes and 3-year programmes. Your IB diploma must contain at least 6 IB courses, with a minimum of 3 courses at HL level (> 12 points) and 3 courses at SL level. The total amount of credits must be at least 24 and the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a compulsory part that must have been completed successfully.

Basic entry requirement for bachelors is a high school diploma and possibly test of English

Accommodation

The Hague University of Applied Sciences can help students find somewhere to stay through a housing agency, which rents furnished rooms to international students. �

THUAS offers a housing service via the International Office for a fee of €275
