I have worked as a classroom teacher K-12 (in traditional public, private, and charter schools), curriculum designer, Writer’s Workshop presenter, WASC Coordinator, homeschooling consultant, mindfulness mentor, project manager, camp creator, and tutor for adults and children. I love spending time with my family (two-legged and four-legged), flying with my favorite pilot, and spending time in nature.
I am looking forward to further developing the ELD program, teaching dual enrollment, and supporting the class of 2028 as an Advisory teacher.

What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment is a program that allows students at WCHS to take classes at American River College (ARC) while they are here on campus. Completing a dual enrollment course is part of our graduation requirements.
Students are required to start their dual enrollment experience by taking HCD 310 College Success, which is a course designed to assist students in obtaining the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in college.
When students take a dual enrollment course they receive WCHS credit and college credit that is transferable to a CSU/UC. A dual enrollment class is also weighted on a 5.0 GPA scale.
Dual Enrollment
ARC uses the Canvas platform for dual enrollment. All assignments are posted in Canvas and need to be submitted via Canvas. Families, facilitators, and other
WCHS staff do not have access to student’s Canvas accounts.
Assignments are given weekly for all classes.
Westlake assignments are posted to Google Classroom and will list individual due dates. New material will be posted and organized by week. Assignments are often due at the close of class or at the end of the day.

Who is involved?
Westlake Staff
Facilitators: WCHS teachers are responsible for creating a rigorous and respectful learning environment, providing students with guidance, mentoring, scaffolding learning, tracking grades, monitoring progress, communicating with families, and managing resources while students are taking an online course through ARC.
Counselors: Communicate with ARC regarding any instructor/course concerns,
drop/add students, inform students and facilitators of ARC calendar dates, provide support for students, facilitators, and families.
Who is involved?
American River College Staff
Instructors: Provides asynchronous instruction and assignments. Is responsible for all grading of assignments and issuing the final grade. Hosts office hours via Zoom by appointment.
Student Success Coaches: Each class has a student success coach whose
information is shared on Canvas. Success coaches provide students with
resources and support for their courses and assignments. Students should reach out to success coaches if they have any questions about a specific assignment or about the course.

HCD 310 Course Description from ARC (EL92274col)
Human Career Development: This course covers the skills and knowledge necessary for college success as well as personal issues that are commonly encountered by many college students. Topics include motivation, self-discipline, learning styles, memory development, time management, communication skills, goal-setting, career planning, study skills and techniques, and critical thinking skills. Campus resources, college regulations, and information competency are also addressed. This course is highly recommended for first time college students and/or continuing college students who would benefit.

Grading
At Westlake, dual enrollment students are welcome to revise and resubmit work or retake assessments for higher points (if grade is below 90%), up to 4 weeks after the original assignment due date but not after quarter or semester grades are closed.
Late work is generally not accepted at ARC. If it is allowed, students will often be marked down 10% for every day it is late or given a short grace period with 50% off.
Communication
Good communication is vital to success in online college classes.
