A Little Explanation

  • With Doctrinal Mastery, although memorization is not emphasized as it was, we are still to help our students know the passages, understand them, and help them be able to know the references to the passages. By studying the Doctrinal Mastery Materials, you will see that they give time to each topic according to how many Doctrinal Mastery Passages there are for that topic. In other words, you can take a week to spotlight each passage and help your students get to know that passage better.
  • To spotlight a scripture for the week, it takes about 5 minutes each day. It is good to have the class recite the verse in unison each day (first slide). Then do one of the following on different days.
    • Ask the class why that verse is important and why it was chosen. How does it support the Doctrinal Mastery Topic? Have them highlight the verse(s) in their scriptures, and underline key words
    • Share the mnemonic (second slide). See helps to sharing a mnemonic on the next slide.
    • Share a scenario, questions, or some activity to help them explain and apply the doctrine. With this they can discuss or roleplay with their partner (third slide).
  • There are about 36 weeks in a school year and 25 Doctrinal Mastery Passages, so you can review and quiz with the students to help them on weeks without a passage, or spend extra time on some passages. We might also look at Doctrinal Mastery Passages from other years. I have also included as quiz and review after ever 6 or 7 passages learned.

Steps To Using The Doctrine & CovenantsDoctrinal Mastery Mnemonics

  1. Keep the key words of the scripture in mind (especially the underlined words).
  2. Link the key words to an idea or image in the cartoon mnemonic.
  3. Link the idea to the reference embedded in the cartoon mnemonic.
  4. Practice with a friend, with them saying the key words, and you giving the reference.
  5. Give hints from the mnemonic.

Moses 1:39

39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

The Plan Of Salvation

8 of 49

God’s Work And Glory Is To Bring To Pass The Immortality And Eternal Life Of Man.

I Moses, saw how God loves us and is

striving to Save us. We are God’s 1st priority.

To share that message, I helped write the

39 books of the Old Testament.

  • According to this scripture, what gives God satisfaction?
  • Where does God put His efforts?
  • What is God’s goal for you?
  • What is the difference between Immortality & Eternal Life?
  • How can you assist God in His work?
  • How can you help others seek Eternal Life?

Zion -One Heart And One Mind In Righteousness

I, Moses, welcome all people who are of one Heart and one Mind to ion. Especially newly ordained Elders (age 18).

  • What does it mean to be of one heart, or one mind?
  • How can you build unity in your family, school, community?
  • How do you promote righteous living around you?
  • How can we assist those in poverty?
  • What brings to pass this kind of society according to Moses 7:69?

Abraham 2:9-11

9 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee above measure, and make thy name great among all nations, and thou shalt be a blessing unto thy seed after thee, that in their hands they shall bear this ministry and Priesthood unto all nations;

10 And I will bless them through thy name; for as many as receive this Gospel shall be called after thy name, and shall be accounted thy seed, and shall rise up and bless thee, as their father;

11 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee; and in thee (that is, in thy Priesthood) and in thy seed (that is, thy Priesthood), for I give unto thee a promise that this right shall continue in thee, and in thy seed after thee (that is to say, the literal seed, or the seed of the body) shall all the families of the earth be blessed, even with the blessings of the Gospel, which are the blessings of salvation, even of life eternal.

Priesthood & Priesthood Keys

14 of 49

The Lord promised Abraham that his seed would “bear this ministry and Priesthood unto all nations.”

I Abraham, learned that my posterity

would bless the whole earth.

An opposite example was when

the 2 towers came down on 9-11.

Adriana has been hearing a lot of teachings lately in which the youth of the Church are invited to help fulfill the Abrahamic covenant by participating in the gathering of Israel. This sounds exciting to her, but she doesn’t really know where to start. She also wonders if she will have enough time to do what is required of her with all the other things she has going on in her life.

Use the doctrine taught in Abraham 2:9–11 to help guide Adriana through her situation.

The Daily Dilemma

Abraham 3:22-23

22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;

23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.

The Plan Of Salvation

17 of 49

Abraham Was Chosen Before He Was Born.

I Abraham, saw the 3 Rulers who would visit Jesus. Surprisingly, they were only 22-23 years old at the time.

Genesis 1:26-27

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Keep My Covenant And Ye Shall Be A Holy Nation.

Some might find it Peculiar that I can make Covenants

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
