CS Pathways

Unit 1-Overview & Resources

2 of 5

Unit 1 Overview:

Students will learn about the world of computer science and how it can relate to them. Computer science holds possibilities for students' future careers. Students may learn that issues, activities, products, media, and people that already have their interest are or could be connected to computer science. They will learn that they can become producers of CS products as well as consumers by creating apps. They will be introduced to the idea that CS is a collaborative and social experience in the way that people create using CS and how CS affects communities.

Unit 1 Purpose:

  • To connect computer science to students’ lives, including future careers (BE GENEROUS ABOUT WHAT CAREER MEANS- CS IS CONNECTED TO HUMAN ENDEAVORS), other subject areas, and personal interests
  • To begin engaging in the collaborative and social experience of CS and understanding how to be producers of CS artifacts and that they can express their needs and interests through CS.
  • To introduce computational thinking with an unplugged experience
  • To have an accessible CS experience depending on students’ prior experience
  • To become familiar with Code.org and the App Lab platform
