6TH GRADE UNIT 2-C.B 30-31

2 of 11

-Blood flows around the body in two connected circuits.

-These circuits form the two types of circulation:

PULMONARY SYSTEMIC

3 of 11

PULMONARY CIRCULATION

-The blood travels from the heart to the lungs and back again.

-In the lungs, the blood releases carbon dioxide and takes in oxygen.

4 of 11

1-Blood from the body,

carrying carbon dioxide,

enters the heart, to the

right atrium, through the

superior and inferior vena

cava and goes down to the

right ventricle

5 of 11

2-Blood leaves the heart

through the pulmonary artery.

3-Blood flows through the

pulmonary arteries and

reaches the lungs.

6 of 11

4-Gas exchange occurs

in the lungs.

Carbon dioxide is removed

from the blood and oxygen

enters the blood.

5-The blood, carrying oxygen,

enters the heart from the

pulmonary veins.

7 of 11

SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION

-The blood travels from the

heart to the body, except

the lungs,and back again.

-The blood carries oxygen

to all the cells and collects

carbon dioxide and other

waste substances.

8 of 11

1-Blood from the heart,

carrying oxygen, leaves it

through the AORTA.

2-The aorta branches into

thinner arteries until

it reaches the capillaries

throughout the body.

9 of 11

3-Oxygen and nutrients pass

from the blood into the cells

through the capillaries.

The blood also collects carbon

dioxide and other waste substances.

4-The blood from the capillaries

contains carbon dioxide.

It moves along the venae cavae.

These veins enter the heart.
