Land Acknowledgement

ESD 112 acknowledges and honors the traditional lands of the Cowlitz and Chinook Tribes, Lower Columbia Peoples, Shoalwater Bay Tribe and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, on which our school districts reside in what is now Southwest Washington. We pay respect to the elders and caretakers that have stewarded these lands throughout generations and that are still here today.

Why a Community of Practice:

  • COP allows a time and space to develop our conceptual understanding of MTSS
  • Leadership teams (district & school) working together is essential to promote success & equitable outcomes for students
  • Clear expectations, exploration, training and strategic implementation paired with coaching will enable for a greater chance of implementation and long-term success
  • A space for districts to learn about MTSS and create actionable steps for installation, initial implementation and refinement

Our Objectives:

1. Participants will develop a conceptual understanding of the state-wide MTSS framework

2. Participants will take a deeper dive into the five essential components of Washington State MTSS (Team-Driven Shared Leadership, Data-Based Decision Making, Family, Student and Community Engagement, Continuum of Supports and Evidence-Base Practices).

3. Participants will familiarize themselves with Implementation Science as a key driver for MTSS scaleup in their district.

4. Participants will familiarize themselves with the District Capacity Assessment (DCA) or District Systems Fidelity Inventory (DSFI) in an effort to plan for implementation

Team-Driven Shared Leadership

Focus Question: Why is teaming so essential to success?

There is no way a single system

has all the time,

all the knowledge,

and all the skills

to meet all the needs

of every child in every school or district.

~ Buffman, Mattos, and Webber 2009

We depend on collective efficacy.

What is an Implementation Team?

A group of stakeholders that oversees, attends to, and is accountable for key functions of innovation selection, implementation, and improvement

It is not:

…an advisory body

…a group that provides only periodic

input or meets during crisis

…a technical work group

…a learning collaborative

Essential Questions of the DIT/School Team?

What do we want all schools to know and be able to do?

How will we know when they learned it/it's implemented?

How will we respond when they don't?

How will we extend the learning when schools reach fidelity measures?
