ARCHITECTURAL REMIX

Goal:
-create a drawing of a believable architectural space that uses and plays with illusionistic 3D space on a 2D surface. This space can be either realistic (acknowledges gravity, uses a single point of view and hence a single eye line), or surrealistic, dream like, disorienting, yet momentarily believable (uses linear perspective, but manipulates it in ways that are both subtle and effective, such as using multiple eye lines).
-invent a space using elements from direct observation only

Subject:
-any structural element that you can observe in your surroundings can be used: buildings, roads, bridges, hallways, room corners, windows, arches, towers, the inside of your closet etc. Consider small structures found in nature, such as seed pods or crystals, which can be blown up and given a monumental feeling.
-combine 3 or more structures to create a new, invented structure that has the ability to fool the viewer into believing in its spacial existence; you will need concept sketches!
Materials:
-3'x4' of your drawing paper roll
-vine and compressed charcoal
-make sure you fix your drawing before turning it, and possibly while working on it, as necessary

-composition, focal point, interesting arrangement of positive and negative spaces, movement, variety and rhythm, contrast
-ability to create illusion of depth and volume through use of light/ shadow and perspective
-correct observation of forms
Craft
-quality of mark, carefully layered charcoal to produce a wide range of value
-contours and edges are varied, according to lighting situation, and they describe a solid form (no wavy walls if they should be straight )
