3 Pre-tasting Chablis Outside:

Brocard Chablis Montee de Tonnerre Premier Cru 2018

92-96 Sappy, elegant and refined with a hint of wood spice and a fresh, racy, classically Chablisien finish. A softly floral-inflected nose combines notes of citrus and a broad array of classic Chablis elements. The medium-bodied flavors possess a notably finer mouth feel along with a super-saline, clean and dry finish. This will need to develop more depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range but it could well do that.

Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Bougros"

90-95 Sweet apples and pears with some stone and flint on the nose. Full-bodied with tight, focused phenolics that frame the wine nicely and then layers of fruit and lively acidity. Nicely crafted and composed.

Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru Vau Ligneau

91-94 The gentle nose on this wine combines the slight flintiness of reduction with ethereal dried yarrow. The palate is multi-dimensional with yeast, lemon, chalk and saltiness. Subtle texture and scented freshness are everything here, despite the ripeness of 2018.

Absent any wood influence, the floral aspects of the grape deliver scents of apple blossoms and spring pollen. Creamy flavors of white peach and brighter lime hold tension, setting the wine up to evolve for five years or more.
