Antigone

In Greek mythology, Antigone ,She is the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, and the sister of Ismene, Eteocles, and Polyneices.

The figure of Antigone appears in several Greek tragedies, especially in the one of the same name created by Sophocles in the 5th century BC. C

Disobedience leads Antigone to her own death: she is locked up alive in a tomb, and ends up hanging herself.

The confrontation between Antigone and Creon over the fate of the remains of Polyneices raises at the same time the conflicts between men and women, between old age and youth, between society and the individual, between human beings and divinity.

Ismene

Ismene is the daughter of Oedipe and Jocasta, who is also her grand-mother . She is the sister of Antigone, Etéocle and Polynice.

In Oedipus at Colonus, Ismene serves her father mostly as an information gatherer. Unlike Antigone, Ismene has a nearly normal and stable life. She does not serve her father's needs or share his danger daily, as does Antigone. Ismene is continually in her sister's shadow.

In a theatre play, the two sisters will come into disagreement, Ismene preferring to respect the decree promulgated by Creon, their uncle, who became king of Thebes following the death of the two brothers, heirs of Oedipus. This decree forbade granting the corpse of Polynices the ritual of burial in order to punish him for his betrayal.
