Introducing - Our Common Agenda

2020 marked the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations.

In the DECLARATION ON THE COMMEMORATION OF THE SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED NATIONS, Governments agreed on 12 priority areas :

  • LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND.
  • PROTECT OUR PLANET.
  • PROMOTE PEACE & PREVENT CONFLICTS.
  • ABIDE BY INTERNATIONAL LAW & ENSURE JUSTICE.

Introducing - Our Common Agenda

In 2021, the office of the SG announced 13 ‘tracks’ of work to put these into practice.

Each ‘track’ includes :

  • A United Nations official document (resolution)

  • Two countries / Member States / UN agencies who co-facilitate that track : they lead negotiations with others

  • In 2023: Policy briefs : to advise Member States on how to put the tracks into practice

New Agenda for peace

The New Agenda for Peace will not be negotiated by Member States and is being led by four UN entities – DPPA (political and peacebuilding), DPO (peace operations), UNODA (disarmament) and UNOCT (counter-terrorism).

A/RES/76/6: The New Agenda for Peace is identified as a high-level track of the Our Common Agenda under the commitment to promote peace and prevent conflicts.

#CovidUnder19’s advocacy strategy around OCA

Advocacy Goal : Anchoring children and child rights at the center of policymaking for the future.

Specific objectives :

  • Encouraging governments to include children in their delegations for the SDG Summit in September 2023.
  • Embedding key messages about children and children’s rights in the documents around OCA & SoTF, particularly in the Youth Track.

Strategic advocacy actions :

  • Lobby & advocate to Youth stakeholders globally & nationally to champion children’s rights and make space for children at the table.
