HEALTH AT SCHOOL

When to keep your child at home:

  • Temperature of 100.4 or higher
  • Vomiting, Nausea, and/or diarrhea
  • Other Symptoms of Illness/ Cold symptoms (cough, sore throat, congestion, etc.)
  • Undiagnosed Rash
  • Unusually red eyes with drainage (not allergy related)
  • Active Lice

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL �(INCLUDING OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS)

  • Requires doctor’s order/parent consent form
  • Should be dropped off by parent to front office
  • Must be in original container with pharmacy label
  • Kept in a locked cabinet in the health office

IMMUNIZATION LAW CHANGE FOR 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR

  • Beginning January 1, 2021, doctors will use an electronic form available through the California Immunization Registry (CAIR). CAIR is a secure computer system that is already used across California that stores children’s immunization (shot) records. The doctor can send the form to the child’s parent or school, or the school can access the from through CAIR directly. Schools can only accept medical exemptions on the CAIR form. If you have any questions or concerns about CAIR’s system or forms, please contact your District Nurse.

WHO TO CONTACT?

I see children as kites.

You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground.

You run with them until you are both breathless.

They crash.

They hit the roof-top.

You patch and comfort, adjust and teach.

You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday, they’ll fly.

Finally, they are airborne; they need more string, and you keep letting it out.

But with each twist of the ball of twine, there is a sadness that goes with the joy. The kite becomes more distant, and you know it won’t be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar as it is meant to soar; free and alone.

Only then do you know that you did your job.
