  • They were able to produce food rapidly.

  • They had cotton that they used to produce clothing that they would later sell to pay war cost.
  • They had first rate generals which meant they knew what they were doing when they went on the defensive.
  • They had highly motivated soldiers which meant that they were willing to die something they thought was right.
