Florida Delegation Meetings

  • Each County Has a Delegation Meeting Before the State Legislative Session
    • County schedules available at:

https://www.momsrising.org/blog/florida-2024-2025-delegation-meetings

  • State representatives and Senators attend Delegation meetings to get citizen input on legislation

  • Citizens can request to be on the agenda to speak for 2-3 minutes about legislation they would like to see passed
    • Must apply to speak in advance by a deadline that varies by county
    • May submit documents to be provided to legislators

  • There is an open forum at the end of scheduled speakers who miss the deadline for being on the agenda but talk times are likely shorter

Suggested Strategy for Delegation Meetings

  • Recruit a team of 5 people

  • Each person talks about 1 bill
    • Write and share speech with other counties
    • Based on one-pager bill summaries which are provided to legislators
    • Training video on each bill that speakers can view before speaking
    • 1 Hour zoom training if desired
    • DefendFlorida.org/preparation contains videos, one-pagers, and full bill language
    • Ask for sponsors, co-sponsors, and help with getting leadership buy-in
    • Schedule follow-up meetings with interested legislators – in-person or zoom meeting with experts

  • Request to be scheduled back-to-back
