Prayer

Dear God,

Help us remember to be kind online, just like we are kind to our friends at school.

Teach us to see the good in others, even if they don't seem like us. Just like the Good Samaritan helped the stranger, show us how to help others online too.

Maybe we can see someone being left out and invite them to play. If someone is sad, maybe we can send them a smiley face to cheer them up.

Thank you, God.

What does being a good “cyber friend” mean?

How can you be like the Good Samaritan when someone else is being treated unkindly in a virtual space?

Being a good cyber friend means using technology to build positive and supportive online friendships. Be Respectful: Treat your friends online with the same kindness you would in person. Use kind words and avoid saying anything mean or hurtful. Be mindful of their feelings and avoid jokes that might be misunderstood online.Be Supportive:Be there for your friends online, celebrate their successes, and offer encouragement when they're feeling down. If they're struggling with something online, listen to them and offer help if you can. Be Responsible:Keep your promises and be reliable when interacting with friends online. Don't share their personal information without their permission. Be aware of the dangers of cyberbullying and stand up for them if you see them being treated unkindly online. Be Inclusive: Welcome new friends and be kind to everyone online. Avoid leaving anyone out of online activities or conversations. Be Fun: Share funny jokes, stories, or games to make your friends laugh. Use technology to connect and have fun together online, but remember the importance of real-world interaction too!

Grade 1 responsibilities in the online community will be focused on safe and positive participation. Be Kind and Respectful: This is the golden rule of any community, digital or otherwise. Grade 1 students can learn to use kind words, avoid saying anything mean, and treat everyone online the way they want to be treated.

Ask for Help: They can be responsible learners by asking a grown-up for help if they encounter something they don't understand or something that makes them feel uncomfortable online.

Be a Good Digital Citizen: This means understanding basic safety practices like not clicking on unknown links, not sharing personal information without permission, and being aware of online dangers.

Follow the Rules: If they're using an educational website or online game, they can be responsible by following the guidelines and rules set by the platform.

How can grade 1’s collaborate with others online? With adult supervision they can do:

Simple Shared Activities: There are some educational websites or apps with limited interaction features. These could involve simple puzzles, matching games, or basic coding exercises where students can "work" alongside each other with a grown-up present.

Teacher-Led Online Activities: Some schools might use online platforms for class activities. A teacher might lead a discussion or activity where students can participate by raising virtual hands or typing short answers (with adult supervision).

Creative Sharing: Students could create artwork or stories offline and then share them with the class through a safe online platform (with adult supervision and privacy settings in place).
