Time Shift

Genre: Platformer

Objective: The main objective is to progress through the Time Temple by manipulating time to change the environment, avoid obstacles, or outmaneuver enemies. The level ends when the player collects all the main collectibles in a stage

Story: In Time Shift, the story follows a girl named Aria, whose father recently passed leaving her family with his debt. After finding a map to a Temple said to have riches inside Aria sets off to save her family from the debt collects. Along the way she is blessed with time abilities and must use them in order to navigate the dangers ahead and save her family!

Environment Information

The game is set in a place called the Time Temple

The Time Temple is an ancient and mysterious structure that exists across time, from glory days in the past, through its decay in the present, to its technological reclamation in the future

The Shifting Temple is tied to powerful time-warping magic, which the Main Character can manipulate to explore different time periods

3 Periods

The Pristine Past: The temple is majestic and well-maintained. This is the height of the Shifting Temple

The Decaying Present: The temple is in partial ruin, with collapsed pillars, broken floors, and vines on the walls

The Technological Future: The temple is a hybrid of ancient stone architecture and high-tech enhancements

Enemy Information

2 main enemies that change depending on the time period they are in, the Golem and the Beast

The Golem and the Beast change from being ancient but presetine in the past, to corrupted in the present, to mechanical in the future

Both of the enemies will attack the player without thinking

The abilities of these two enemies also change depending on the time period

The Sentinels have more health but slower, while the Temple Beast have less health but faster

Time Manipulation – This core mechanic allows the player to fast-forward or rewind to manipulate the environment

Time Flow - Warps in space that allow Aria to boost at will

Traps - Various traps including electric traps, spike traps, and sawblades

Sword: This allows players to attack enemies

Blade beams: This allows the player to shoot a beam forward dealing damage to enemies

Time-based interactions: Objects and platforms may only exist in certain time periods, requiring players to travel to the past or future to interact with them

Technical Description

Levels: images that are updated through the Environment

Physics: There are projectiles and enemies have a set speed. However, I am not going to be using a physics engine and the speeds will be set

Collision: Collision checking will need to occur between the following objects: Enemy and Character (for melee attacks) Enemy and Projectile (For ranged attack), Character and Projectile (For Enemy ranged attacks) and Boundary (to make sure player doesn’t go through walls or objects), Enemy and Enemy (to make sure enemies don’t clip over each other), and Grappling hook and objects (To make sure the grappling hook doesn’t clip)

Algorithm: An algorithm to handle the syncing between the different states in time
