If we're all in the human race, then why does racism still exist?
by Nehemiah McGuire
Racism is a recurring theme in the US because based on how some people are raised, that can cause differences between other racial groups.
Why do people continue to be racist after so many articles, videos and talks about how racism is dumb? We take on the views of people around us.

It's a really common question that everyone asks all the time. Like if we're all in the human race, then why does racism still exist and why are people still racist. A Lot of habits or attitudes are shaped and molded when we're young. When our family members or friends express racist opinions, it can be common that we can take on those points of view on ourselves. and the problem with that is, unless we do something about it that habit can stick with us for a lifetime.(S2)
Racial Relations in the United States S1
How Views on Race Relations Shape African Americans' Foreign Policy S2
The majority of African Americans believe race relations in the U.S are not good
We blame others for our problems
Racial issues are among top priorities for African American when they vote
It's common when we get mad or frustrated, we often look for someone else to blame for our problems. As a society , we can do the same thing. People who look or talk differently to us seem like their easier to pick on. You can hear it happening today in comments like for example, "those people take our jobs" or "they get government handouts all the time". Nearly all the time, these statements are wrong and they can be profiling (S2)
."The survey asked respondents to place their opinion on race relations on a four-point scale ranging from very good to very bad (see figure 2). A majority (59 percent, or 562 respondents) felt that race relations in the United States were either somewhat or very bad, with 28 percent reporting they were very bad and 31 percent reporting they were somewhat bad. On the other hand, 41 percent (462 respondents) felt race relations were good, with 11 percent reporting very good and 30 percent somewhat good." ---2023 survey of African American adults (S1)
When the people of america were asked "When you vote for nationally elected officials which of the following are the top three most important issues for you personally" 29% of people voted 1.) Economy & Jobs, 21% of people voted 2.) Racism/Racial discrimination, 17% of people voted 3.) Health care. As you can see (S1)
We only hang around with people "like us" and we're quick to judge
It's completely normal to want to spend time with people that have the same interests as us , background, culture and language. It can creates a sense of belonging that is really important. But the downside to that is it also can set up differences between other groups and, over time, this might lead to us to think that our group is better than others.
We Also can stereotype people from different racial backgrounds as "lazy", "brainy", you get the idea. But what's the best way to beat these We often put a lot of labels on people. Like for example "He dresses like this so he must be into this music". Or "She goes to that school so she must be rich".stereotypes? Don't judge a whole group. Get to know people from different racial backgrounds and find out how much you have in common. (S2)
