Student Engagement & Rapid Guessing

If a student continues to rapid-guess multiple times, the test will pause again. MAP Growth will have 3 pauses, with the final pause at the rapid‑guessing threshold (30% of questions possible on the test). Follow these best practices:

  • As soon as possible, decide whether to continue the student’s test another day, when the student is able to reengage. If so, then Suspend the test.
  • Before ending the testing session, click Download Session Progress to keep track of the student’s rapid guesses

Student Engagement & Rapid Guessing on Reports

  • Teachers will see rapid guessing data on the Student Profile Report and Grade Breakdown Report
  • A new report accessible to those with Administrator access, it will show students with completed test events that reached or exceeded the 30 percent threshold for excessive rapid guessing.

MAP Growth Overview

12 of 51

Introduction to MAP Growth

MAP Growth is a computer adaptive test created by NWEA that kids take two to three times per school year. The results provide teachers with information to help them deliver appropriate content for each student and determine each student’s academic growth over time.

13 of 51

Understanding MAP Growth

Take a moment to review the following resources, specifically:

  • What does it mean to be computer adaptive?
  • What does MAP Growth Measure?
  • What is a RIT Score?
  • Is MAP Growth a standardized test? How is it different from “high stakes” or state tests?
  • Are MAP Growth tests accessible?
  • Growth: Math & Reading Instructional Areas

14 of 51

Accommodations

The MAP assessments provide teachers, students, and parents with data on what students know and need to learn without the use of specific accommodations.

  • Starting with the January 2020 Winter MAP Administration, the ‘read to’ accommodation and ‘calculator and math tools/manipulatives’ are now allowed on the MAP assessments for those students who have these accommodations on their IEP or 504 plan.

Text to Speech

  • TTS can only be assigned to students with this accommodation for MATH Growth tests
  • Access Text-to-speech by selecting one or more students in a testing session and choosing Assign Accommodations.
    • Check all boxes in the TTS accommodation window

Student Engagement & Rapid Guessing

On most MAP® Growth™ tests, when a student has rapid-guessed on multiple questions, the test will pause, notifying both the student and the proctor that the student is going too quickly. It will pause three times during a student’s test session.

44 of 51

Student Engagement & Rapid Guessing

  • If multiple tests are auto-paused at the same time, proctors have two options for resuming a test.
  • Resume an individual test from the student screen using their proctor pin
  • Resume one or more students from the proctor console

The PDF or data file MUST be downloaded before the proctor ends the test session.
