What is Dual Credit?

Allows eligible high school students residing in the ACC service area to enroll in college level classes.��Cost/Waiver Structure: Students are able to take eligible courses tuition-waived from the ACC Core Curriculum, World Language courses (to include ASL), and courses that are part of a Workforce Certificate or Associate of Applied Science degree plan. All other courses will be charged at regular/full tuition.

Dual Credit�Students complete a college course that meets an ISD-approved graduation requirement (ex. HIST-1302 or GOVT-2305).

Co-Enrollment

Students complete a college course and only receive college credit…�The class is not needed for high school graduation (ex. GOVT-2306).

What Dual Credit ISN’T…*Dual Credit courses are college courses with college faculty!

  • Advanced Placement (AP)
    • HS course
    • Taught by HS teacher
    • College Board curriculum
    • Credit-by-exam (AP test)
    • Cost for test
    • Must earn a certain score to potentially receive college credit
    • No TSI required

  • Dual Enrollment (OnRamps)
    • Students enroll in HS course
    • Course taught by HS teacher and supported by UT faculty
    • Students can earn credit for nothing, HS course only, or potentially both HS and college credit
    • If college credit earned it is denoted on a UT transcript
    • No TSI required

What is the Cost?

  • ACC will waive tuition & fees for up to 60 total credit hours per student, after which regular tuition & fees are assessed based on residential address.�
  • Eligible courses include those from the ACC Core Curriculum, World Languages (includes ASL), and Workforce Certificates and AAS Degrees.
  • Students pay for required textbooks and course materials.
    • FAST Program & eligibility
    • Many courses utilize First Day Access books/materials.

Who is Eligible?

  • Current and Rising 9th-12th grade high school students�
  • Students who have received permission from their parent/guardian and designated high school official -and- met any additional requirements & deadlines from their HS/ISD. �
  • College readiness may be required depending upon the ACC HS Program.

*High school partners must have an active Partnership Agreement/MOU with ACC.

What About After HS Graduation?

The ACC Free Tuition pilot program eliminates the cost of tuition and general fees at Austin Community College for eligible students.

As a pilot program, ACC Free Tuition will fully support graduating high school students and TX GED® completers from the Class of 2024 through the Class of 2028, providing three to five years of tuition exemption directly following their high school completion.
