INCISORS

  • Incisors are eight teeth in the front center of your mouth (four on both bottom and top).
  • Two types: Central incisors and lateral incisors.
  • Shovel shaped.
  • Have single root and conical.
  • Have sharp incisal edges used for cutting.
  • Incisors are the teeth that you use to bite into your food.
  • SMALLEST TEETH: Mandibular incisors

CANINES

  • Canines are the next teeth that develop in your mouth, present between incisors and pre molars.
  • There are four of them.
  • V shaped peak known as cusp.
  • Aka Eye tooth or Cuspids.
  • Single root.
  • They are the sharpest teeth, used for tearing apart food.
  • Upper canines are longest.

PRE MOLAR

  • Premolars are used for tearing and crushing food.
  • Unlike your incisors and canines, premolars have a flat biting surface.
  • There are eight premolars in total.
  • Aka bicuspids
  • 1st maxillary PM has 2 roots remaining PM has 1 root.
  • Have 3-4 cusps. Maxillary 1st PM has 2 cusps. Mandibular 1st PM has 2 cusps. Mandibular 2nd PM has 3 cusps

MOLAR

  • Molars are your largest teeth.
  • Their function is similar to that of the premolars, to grind, tear, and crush food.
  • Molars have a large flat biting surface which makes them perfect for this job.
  • Typically there are two roots but maxillary 1st molar has 3 roots.
  • 3rs molar is also known as wisdom teeth and this arises between 17-25 years age.
  • Have 4-5 cusps
  • Maxillary 1st molar sometimes have 5 cusps, known as Cusp of carabelli.
