Describing Changes in Solid Materials
When They Are Cut
OUR LORD AND LOVING HEAVENLY FATHER, WE COME TO YOU THIS HOUR ASKING FOR YOUR BLESSING AND HELP AS WE ARE GATHERED TOGETHER FOR OURVIRTUAL CLASS. WE PRAY FOR GUIDANCE IN THE MATTERS AT HAND AND ASK THAT YOU WOULD CLEARLY SHOW US HOW TO CONDUCT OUR WORK WITH A SPIRIT OF JOY AND ENTHUSIASM. What’s New
You can watch this video in YouTube for you to understand more of our lesson.
What Is It
To "cut" means to divide a solid material into pieces.
What do you think will happen, when solid materials are cut?
What Is It
Any objects or solid materials are subjected to change in 2 aspects when Cut. These are:
1. Change in Shape
Solid materials change in shape, meaning from it's original or normal form into broken pieces when cut.
2. Change in Size
When solid materials are cut, they change in size. They become smaller or tiny than their original size.
What’s More
Does "ALL" these solid materials are easily cut?
What objects that cannot be cut with a simple scissors? What can cut them?
Let's experiment and do the activities on the next page to be able to answer these questions.
Independent Activity 1
Independent Assessment 1
Direction: Choose the correct answer according to what you have observed from the activity or experiment. Darken the circle TRUE if you observed that it happened in the activity and FALSE if you do not observed it happened in the activity.
2. The piece of caandy wrapper, eco bag, piece of old cloth change their shape when cut.
3. The piece of candy wrapper, eco bag, piece of old cloth changed their size when cut.
4. The piece of candy wrapper, eco bag, piece of old cloth changed in texture when cut.
5. Solid materials like the piece of candy wrapper, eco bag, piece of old cloth changed in shape, size but not in texture when cut. There are no new material or object formed since it is only the physical aspect of the material that changed.
Independent Activity 2
Independent Activity 2
Direction: Choose the correct answer according to what you have observed from the activity or experiment. Darken the circle TRUE if you observed that it happened in the activity and FALSE if you do not observed it happened in the activity.
2. The cartolina, paper, and leaf changed their shape when cut.
3. The cartolina, paper, and leaf changed their size when cut.
4. The cartolina, paper, and leaf changed their texture when cut.
5. Solid materials like the cartolina, paper, and leaf changed in shape, size but not in texture. There are no new material or object formed since it is only the physical aspect of the material that changed.
Independent Activity 3
Independent Assessment 3
Direction: Choose the correct answer according to what you have observed from the activity or experiment. Darken the circle TRUE if you observed that it happened in the activity and FALSE if you do not observed it happened in the activity.
2. The tin can, glass and piece of bottle can be cut with a sophisticated or different special cutters.
3. Using the special cutters the tin can, glass and piece of bottle can changed in shape when cut.
4. Using the special cutters the tin can, glass and piece of bottle can changed in size when cut.
5. Solid materials like the tin can, glass and piece of bottle need special cutters so that they can be cut and can changed in shape and size but not in texture.
What I Have Learned
Generalization & Application
What I Can Do
Dress makers use big and sharp scissors to be able to cut clothes. Jewelry makers use special cutters to cut metals and stones like diamonds to be able to make pieces of jewelry. Welding shops also use different cutters for iron and nickel.
If you are in one of those jobs or work, how can you protect yourself from accident or getting hurt?
Yes, you're right!
Use the scissor carefully and hold the material you are cutting to avoid it from falling.
