Set Some Goals

  • How much scholarships money am I you looking to get? Is it based off of my SAI (Student Aid Index)?
  • How many scholarships do I need/want to apply for?
  • Do I want to search for and apply for one scholarship every week?

Set some goals and then determine how much time you will need to meet them.

Time Management

There is no quick or easy way to search for scholarships. It will take some dedicated time on your part to search and apply for scholarships. This is why time management will be important!

  • Find a couple of days/times per week that may work for you that you can devote to searching for scholarships and completing those scholarship applications.
  • Discuss accountability and follow through with a parent, friend, teacher, etc. who can encourage you and hold you accountable to getting the work done.

Tips to Avoid Falling for Scholarship Scams

Don’t give away:

  • Social security number (verify its a legitimate organization like OSAC or FAFSA)
  • Any type of credit card, bank, or payment information.
  • Parent’s social security number or credit card/bank information
  • Your school ID or SSID.

Scholarships are free to apply! If they ask you for money it’s probably a scam.
