Theory…
There are two types of RNG we need to worry about for the run ‘STAGE RNG’ (colour variations for the stage) and ‘DROP RNG’ (colours of gems being dropped).
NB: if you mess up the run at any point you can just die and continue that stage with the same RNG
Challenge stages and the stage directly following them have 1 variation.��For all other stages the colour variation is determined by the DROP RNG and how much of the stage intro was skipped.
To get consistent STAGE RNG avoid skipping the intro to stage 1. Then only skip the intro if it ends in 0,1,5 or 6
DROP RNG is constant throughout the run. You get the same sequence every stage (except challenges)
It is determined by the value in memory at 0x31A5AD50��This is a number that starts at 0 when the game is reset and ticks up at various points in the game.
Getting the right DROP RNG requires a bit of setup...

For this we are only interested in the first 2 bytes at the address.
32 is the decimal value of the first byte 10 is the decimal value of the second
1. Reset Cartridge to bring the value to 0
2. The first screen that affects the value is the ‘press start’ screen. The value jumps up slowly here if you click through as quickly as possible you end up on the main menu with a value of 65
3. The value is constantly incrementing fast during the main menu. When if gets to 256 the seconds byte increments by 1 (like how counting works).��The main menu plays an audio loop of beats in groups of 12. Where beats (5 and 6) and (11 and 12) are shorter notes. If you entered when the first byte was 65 then the second byte will be going up on the 10th beat in the tune.��Navigate to survival mode hard while counting the loops and try and enter around the 10th or 11th beat of the 9th loop.��At this point our second byte should have gotten to 9 and first byte should be somewhere in the low hundreds
4. Die a lot. Each time you die and continue on survival mode it increases the counter by 1. Keep doing this until you recognise the pattern for 137:9 (see the next page for a list of patterns)��5. This is the hardest part of the setup and I recommend a wired keyboard if possible (or real hardware).��You have to select NO to continuing which will bring you back to the main menu where the value will start increasing fast again.
Before the menu even shows start tapping DOWN very quickly then START when the arrow hits Flash Columns. If you do it right the counter will have increased by 150 from 137:9 to 32:10. You can now start the run.
If you are consistently fast or slow you can make adjustments by dying more or less on survival mode.
