Our goals for Pledge Week

Let’s get 20 pledges this week - no problem, we will each recruit at least one pledge!

Co-Presenter: Right now we’ve raised X dollars in pledged donations this semester. Our goal is to get X new pledges this week to get to roughly $X. Look at how many awesome, smart people are on this call. I fully believe that each of you is capable of convincing at least one person to make a commitment to end extreme poverty.

Goal is for everyone to get X pledge.

Sometimes asking people to pledge can be awkward or uncomfortable or scary, but please remember that the work we are doing is so much bigger than us. The absolute worst thing that can come out of asking someone to pledge is that they say no. and the best is you’ve just protected multiple people from horrible diseases.

We are gonna check in with each of you towards the end of the week to see how it’s going so try to get your first pledge of the week by then - and if there’s any issue (if they have tricky questions, or there's missing resources)

Changing the culture:

It might feel weird to ask people to do this. But what we’re trying to do is to change the culture - we’re trying to create a culture where giving (regularly and effectively) is just what happens. So the part of you that is raised on the norms of the old culture will, naturally, revolt against this and might label it ‘weird’. But what we’re trying to do here is to change that culture. So we want to fight that feeling - push through it, and you nudge the culture in the direction we want it to go.

It’s really important that we get a full 1% pledge. If people want to donate a small amount now, there’s a new option for that in donational (our payment platform)

We know from experience that one-on-one conversations with friends and family is the best way to share these ideas and get people on board

For each of your 3-5 people, you’ll choose one of the following actions and do it right now:

Event invite: Message them and invite them to one of our Pledge Week events
Send the one-pager: Send them a link to the one-pager and ask them if they would like to take the pledge
Call them: Message them asking to schedule a call to talk about OFTW, where you ask them to take the pledge
Follow up: If you’ve already chatted about OFTW, send a follow-up message and just ask if they want to take the pledge
