Instead of immediately saying why an idea won't work, try to build on it.

This doesn't mean you can't critique ideas—you should! But start from a place of addition rather than subtraction.

They realized that they had jumped to solutions without understanding the problem each other’s values and reasoning!

When they shared their underlying values and reasoning:

Beanbags student → cared about comfort
Rows student → cared about focus
No furniture student → cared about flexibility

The 5-Step Collaboration Process

1. Define the problem together — What are we actually solving?

2. Generate ideas without judging — Brainstorm freely

3. Build on each other's ideas — "Yes, and..."

4. Evaluate ideas together — What's the best solution? Is there a way to compromise?

5. Commit to the decision — Even if it wasn't your first choice
