Elementary Summer Reading Suggestions

Shrewsbury does not have a required summer reading list. The books, authors, and topics suggested on these pages are merely a starting point for you and your child. The most important thing is to choose books that interest your child and make reading fun! Don’t forget that students have access to ebooks and audiobooks through their Sora account on their iPads throughout the summer.

Consider exploring these topics and genres to build your background knowledge and get ready for the school year ahead!

PICTURE BOOKS

Enjoy some family time by having your children listen to stories being read aloud by a parent, grandparent, or older sibling. Emergent readers may want to practice reading with these books, but they are also a wonderful choice for reading together.

One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by.” - Jeannette Walls
