What is data management plan or DMP?

  • A data management plan or DMP is a formal document that outlines how data are to be handled both during a research project, and after the project is completed.
  • The goal of a data management plan is to consider the many aspects of data management, metadata generation, data preservation, and analysis before the project begins; and prepared for preservation in the future.

Short Historical Note

  • DMPs were originally used in 1966 to manage aeronautical and engineering projects' data collection and analysis;
  • Expanded across engineering and scientific disciplines in the 1970s and 1980s.
  • Up until the early 2000s, DMPs were used "for projects of great technical complexity, and for limited mid-study data collection and processing purposes.
  • In the 2000s and later, E-research and economic policies drove the development and uptake of DMPs.

Allocation of Resources

The data will be made FAIR at no additional cost to the project.

The reporting, dissemination, and outreach data will be hosted on the Institute of Astronomy's GSuite cloud service. This service is provided free of charge to educational institutions by Google. The STELLAR website is hosted on IANAO infrastructure, funded by the LOFAR-BG consortium.

Virtual Machine for schools and trainings

Data Security

STELLAR will promote data encryption and backup distribution dealing with sensitive data of individual stakeholders.

Data will be stored on the responsible partner’s storage system. Every partner is responsible to ensure that the data are stored safely and securely and in full compliance with European Union data protection laws.

After the completion of the project, all the responsibilities concerning data recovery and secure storage will go to the repository storing the data.

All data files will be transferred via secure connections and in encrypted and password-protected form.
