Able with Athletics Come and Try Day
VISUAL STORY
My Able with Athletics Come & Try Day
I am going to Able with Athletics Come and Try Day!
It is a fun day where I can try new activities, make friends and have fun. I can run, jump, throw, and play lots of games.
When I arrive, friendly people will greet me with a smile. I will tell them my name and they will help me sign in.
Once I am inside, I will find a place to put my bag and water bottle and meet my coach.
There may be other people around and it may be busy. I will wait with everyone.
First, the coach will show us the games and activities we will be playing. I will watch and listen carefully.
After the instructions, we will go out to the ground.
There might be lots of stations and equipment on the ground.
Some of the stations may look like this.
Throughout the day, we will move around in small groups and try different activities for about 15-20 minutes each.
I can also try activities at my own pace with my family.
Running
Some of the activities I will try include:
Jumping
Throwing
Fun games
The games might be individual, in small groups or all together.
I might need to wait my turn while other students are doing an activity. I won’t have to wait long before it will be my turn soon.
Take a break
When I exercise it might get hot. It is OK for me to take a break or drink some water.
If I need to go to the toilet, I can tell my coach or a volunteer.
If it gets too loud or tiring, I can visit the quiet room to rest and recharge.
If I need help, I can ask the coach and my parents can help too. I might not be perfect at every activity, but that’s OK because I am here to try Athletics.
Athletics is all about learning. I will try every activity and have fun with my friends and family.
At the end of the day, we will all come together to say thank you and celebrate. We may also pose and smile for a group photo!
How I might feel
I might feel excited, happy, or a little nervous on the day and that’s OK! Everyone is here to help and make sure I have a great day.
Goodbye
Before I leave, I will say ‘goodbye’ to my coach, volunteers and friends. I can choose to wave or say ‘goodbye’.
