Air and Flue Gas (Exhaust) Circuit(This ensures proper combustion and safe exhaust of gases)

  • Air Supply: Fresh air is drawn in using forced draught fans.
  • Air Preheating: Air is heated using flue gases in an air preheater to improve efficiency.
  • Combustion: Preheated air supports coal combustion in the boiler.
  • Flue Gas Flow: Hot gases pass through the superheater, economizer, and dust collectors.
  • Exhaust: Cleaned gases exit through the chimney via induced draught fans.

Feed Water and Steam Circuit(This is the heart of power generation)

  • Water Supply: Water from a hot well is pumped into the economizer.
  • Boiler Heating: Water is heated by flue gases and turned into steam in the boiler drum.
  • Superheating: Steam is further heated in the superheater to become superheated steam.
  • Turbine Expansion: Steam expands in the turbine, spinning it to generate electricity.
  • Condensation: Exhaust steam is cooled in a condenser and recirculated.

Cooling Water Circuit(This maintains the cycle by condensing steam back into water.)

  • Cooling Source: Water is drawn from a river, lake, or cooling tower.
  • Condensation: Steam from the turbine is condensed using this cold water.
  • Heat Rejection: Heated water is cooled in the cooling tower and reused.
  • Make-up Water: Lost water is replenished to maintain the cycle.
