1. What is the central idea of your concentration? 500 ch. 2-4 sentences

For my concentration I wanted to explore an illustrative style through the usage of typography and landscapes that I have rendered myself. My concentration pieces started with the typography and landscapes being very separate from each other, and ended with the mood of the words of the typography and the mood of the landscape corresponding.

2. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples.

1350 characters, and want to refer to specific pieces.

My concentration began when I wanted to explore illustration after putting my artistic focus on graphic design throughout high school. Image 1 was for a play, and I worked hard on the imagery in the poster. I liked the illustrative outcome of the piece, but design work I’m given doesn't call for that amount of imagery. I moved onto making work just for myself that was made only to be visually pleasing (2). I have always had an interest in typography in graphic design, and in 2 I liked working with type. However, after making 2 I wanted to explore hand rendered type. When moving on from 2 I decided I wanted to combine vector landscapes and type that I drew myself. I constructed my own landscapes in Photoshop, then vectored my drawn type in Illustrator. Designing 3 through 6 I made a point that the text didn’t have an affiliated meaning with the landscape. Finishing 6 I moved from placing my type on top of the background, and tried integrating type into the landscape (7 and 8). As I fit type into those pieces I focused on positive and negative space. In 7 I used the type to fill negative space, but in 8 I added the type to the positive space to give places to breathe. In my last 4 pieces (9 through 12) I decided to keep inputting type into the landscapes, but I choose type to reflect the meaning and visual mood of the landscape.
