EITC helps low to moderate-income workers and families get a tax break if their Adjusted Gross Income is less

than $59,187

EITC helps tax payers use the credit to reduce any taxes they owe or increase their tax refund amount

FREE TAX PREPARATION

The IRS provides free basic tax return preparation services to qualifies individuals through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs for:

    • People who generally make less than $58,00 or less
    • Persons with disabilities
    • Limited English-speaking taxpayers

Additionally:

    • TCE offers free tax help to persons 60 years and older

EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT AMENDMENTS

If you filed your taxes and did not claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, you can file an amendment.

You must file Form 1040-X within three years after the date you filed your original tax return or within two years after the date you paid the tax.

If you were eligible, you can still claim the EITC for prior years:

    • For 2020, if you file your tax return by May 17, 2024
    • For 2019, if you file your tax return by July 15, 2023
