What is an insect?

All insects have three main body parts:

  • A head
  • An abdomen
  • A thorax

They also have:

  • Two antennae
  • Six legs

The Beetle

  • There are over 300,000 kinds of beetle on Earth.
  •  Beetles have a hard shell and four wings.
  • Some beetles cause a lot of damage by eating crops, wood and food. Other beetles help us by pollinating crops or eating harmful insects.
  • Beetles come in a lot of colours. They can have stripes or spots.
  • Beetles live everywhere – from hot deserts to the Antarctic.
